Summary: That awkward moment you run into the love of your life despite him trying to avoid you.

[SO by chance and for whatever reason, Shirley was just on her way out of the apartments for... Probably to buy groceries or something, just some mundane and normal task. Right as she steps outside though, she looks up to see a rather familiar figure.

[Shirley is the last of the people that he's been avoiding from back home. Suzaku had found him the previous month, and from there he'd been unable to avoid Euphie too. Lelouch knew it couldn't last forever, but he wanted to prolong it as long as he could while he considered his options, given the information Kallen had given him.

Seems that prolonging just came to an end, though. He tenses at the familiar voice, before turning to face her. What kind of face should he show her? He settles for pleasant surprise.]

Shirley! You're here too?

[Just don't let her hear that or she'll get mad... What kind of person avoids their friends huh!! Knowing that really is the Lelouch she knows though, she quickly jogs over to him.]

Yeah, I've been here a while actually! Did you just arrive? Though I don't think it's time for that to happen just yet...

[chessmasters]

[The kind of person who knows unfortunate things about the future and hasn't decide how to deal with them yet!! Don't fault him for it, das rude.]

Hm? No, I arrived last month... If I knew you were here, I would have sought you out sooner. How long have you been here?

What? I can't believe I missed you! I even ran into Suzaku when he got here, so I wonder how I missed you... [:( That's sad yo.] Oh, I've been here for a while now. I guess... Five months now?

[Everyone makes his life hard it's true. Even he makes his own life hard.]

Really? Suzaku didn't tell me you were here. [Yes let's put the blame on Suzaku that always works.] I've spent a lot of time in the library since arriving, so maybe that's why. And then that mission I was drafted for... [He shakes his head.]

At any rate, it doesn't matter now. You've been here for that long? So the Initiative doesn't send civilians home after all.

He didn't?! I wonder why... [She's frowning unhappily WHAT HAVE YOU DONE LELOUCH?! SUZAKU IS DOOMED NOW.] You were drafted for a mission? You weren't hurt or anything, were you?

Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case. [Of course it works out in her favor though... WELP.] I kind of wish they did though; their goals don't really seem like the kind of thing I can help with, you know?

[That was precisely Lelouch's plan. Pin the blame so he doesn't have to deal with it himself. The last thing he wants on his hands is an irritated Shirley.]

Ah, no, not really. I wasn't much help on the mission, I mostly wandered around.

[If Shirley wasn't here, she'd be... Well, he's not sure whether to be pleased that she's here or not. She isn't the sort of person he wants to see in a war zone, but he's glad to know she's alive after what Kallen told him.]

Mm, yeah. We'd be better off back at school, I think. There isn't much we can do for them- we'd probably be more of a hindrance on the battlefield.

[She's bound to get irritated sooner or later lbr here... Better later than sooner I guess.]

That's good to hear that you weren't hurt. [But then she smiles, teasing.] Are you sure that you weren't just being too lazy? I wouldn't be surprised if that's why you weren't much help.

[a nod] Yeah, that's pretty much what I thought. At the very least, when I first arrived here, I asked if there were other things people could do to help, and thankfully there are! It just seems strange to take people who wouldn't be able to help out on the biggest things.

[True. Something would be wrong with the world if she wasn't annoyed at him at some point or another. Likely for something stupid he decided to do or not do.

He smiles, holding his hands up to feign defense.]

Really! I don't know much about causing chaos like they wanted. It looked like everyone else had a pretty good idea, though.

What kind of things are helping with, Shirley? Probably more than you need to, I'm sure.

[These two can only go on for so long without him doing something dumb and her getting mad.]

Causing chaos, huh? Well, if that's what it was, I guess that wouldn't be something you're that suited for. Honestly, it sounds more like something Prez should've been helping out with.

I make sure to not do more than I should, really! [Except probably not oops.] I mostly help out the clinic, but I try to read up on the history of this place when I can.

[chessmasters]

[He laughs lightly.]

Yeah, it would have been her area of expertise. [His expression sobers after a second, though.] I hope she says where she belongs, though. It's too dangerous here for any of us.

[His expression shifts back into something less serious with the rest that she says.]

You're helping out at the clinic? I'm sure the people here appreciate that. What have you learned from the reading? I've been trying to do the same...

Me too. With how crazy things are here, I wouldn't want to see any of us here.

Haha, I really hope they do! I'm still learning new things all the time, so I just want to make sure I don't screw up anything. [She brightens up at the second part though, excited.] A lot, honestly! It's weird but really neat at the same time; things are so different here compared to history back home.

[chessmasters]

Mm. I wonder if it's our different experiences with history that they want? Since they're trying to change the past all the time... Maybe that's why they want people from so many different places.

[He smiles. It's nice to see her excited and smiling even considering where she is. This place isn't exactly blocked off from war like Ashford Academy was.]

When I was in the library, I found some books from Britannia, too.

I guess that could be it, but if that's how it is, they're going to just keep kidnapping people like crazy, aren't they? Who knows how many different kinds of histories there are out there!

Really? They really are interested in other places and histories then... What kinds of books were they? Just regular history books or something like that?

[chessmasters]

They bring people here every month, right? They might be planning to do that after all.

[He nods.]

Mm, history books. There were some military notes too, I think.

[loveagain]

Yeah, it does happen pretty regularly. They have a strange plan in mind, if that's the case... [Granted any plan would probably seem weird when traveling across worlds used to be an impossible idea.]

Military notes? I guess that would be helpful given the situation here.

[chessmasters]

I can't think of any other reason why they would need to bring civilians here. It would benefit them more to only bring military here, though, I think. Less dangerous, at least...

[loveagain]

[She nods in agreement.] It'd be less dangerous for everyone involved, you know? I guess it can't really be helped at this point, but still.

[chessmasters]

It might not be so terrible if they didn't draft just anybody for the missions, but...

Yeah... Even after being here for a while, there's still so many things I don't like or understand.

[chessmasters]

Yeah... Suzaku and I are trying to find a way to leave, though I'm not sure how effective it will be in the long run. If it were easy, there wouldn't still be so many people here.

[loveagain]

That's what I thought. [a beat] But I mean, if it's you two working together, I'm sure you'll be able to figure something out, right?

[Okay it's partly trying to lighten the mood, but it's a little serious too! Along with saving cats from perilous heights, who knew what else they could do when they weren't secretly (or not so secretly) trying to kill each other.]

[He smiles lightly, chuckling. He's fine with lightening the mood up. It's better that way when Shirley's involved. She's been troubled enough as it is.] Something like that. We make a good team, right?

The best team I'd say! Not many people would go climbing rooftops just to save a cat.

[chessmasters]

[Ah, right, that whole fiasco. Damn that cat.

He laughs.]

I wouldn't go that far. Suzaku did most of the work.

I guess he did have to save you too in the end... Well, the fact that you tried is what matters, right?
