Summary: with the announcement of renovations, madoka comes up with a brilliant idea! absolutely nothing could go wrong with a bunch of magical girls living together, right? also surprising kyouko for her birthday for her and her friends!

[After the revelation that their living spaces would be rearranged and her old roommatespritships no more, Kanaya found herself... drifting. Her friends were leaving her one by one, as she shouldn't have complacently otherwise believed. The Initiative was a kind institution, but Exsilium was still on Earth. She couldn't depend on others, only them on her. If Utena wasn't living with her anymore, she'd have to do the shopping for her new roommates. Toji's post on the network brought to her mind again that she could use a method of earning some extra Marques...

When she comes across the bakery, it strikes her as distinct in its bright aesthetic from the colorless Exiles' businesses. Could a transport be at work here? Either way, the building is to Kanaya's taste, and so it is that she tries the door.]

[ decorations taken care of for the time being, madoka heads downstairs to the bakery itself with a bit of a hum. really, it was hard to deny how happy this day was making her. she was surprised though to see someone vaguely familiar in the bakery as she clears the stairs, her smile brightening as she remembers just where she last saw kanaya. ]

Ah, hello!

[Kanaya looks around at first appraising, then moving to approving and admiring. Vaguely familiar Madoka's arrival is a pleasant surprise. She addresses her warmly.]

Madoka. What's all this? [Presumably she's responsible..]

[revelation]

Well... this is my bakery! I've been working on it for a few months now, it's almost ready to be open.

[speakveryclearly]

Your bakery... [That is probably not what these things were called on Alternia. But she can use the context clues.] How exciting. You're going to administrate it all by yourself? I thought your people would consider such an endeavor overly ambitious for an adolescent.

[revelation]

Not by myself, no. M'gann has already helped a lot and will be helping more with the business side of it all along with the baking.

And it probably is! Overly ambitious, that is. I've been reading books about business at the library though, I don't really know how much it'll help. I've been here for over a year now, so I figure I might as well put my time to some good use.

[speakveryclearly]

That's an understandable determination to make. [Admirable.] I can emphasize with the fear of stagnation, as a semiannual transport myself. And in a crippled economy like this... any business stands out. I have to admit it's hard to think of other ways to make more marques move around.

[She sure has been... looking for some haha...]

[revelation]

I'm glad you think so. I think it'll also be really nice for everyone, even if it's something as simple as a bakery.

[ there is a very nice (admittedly hand drawn) HELP WANTED sign in the window. ]

Skaia knows that in such an environment it will constitute a relatively significant increase of variety.

[What if she just... noticed that and went over to try to read the sign...] I like the drawing.

[revelation]

Skaia... ? Oh! You're home, right?

[ but, oh boy! a smile. ] Thank you very much, I'm hoping it'll get some people's attention.

Not--not really. Close enough though. [She flashes her fangs as she shakes her head.]

So... exactly what other types of "help" have you "wanted"? It's fortunate you have bakery and business covered, those are certainly the core aspects and not exactly my own forte... [Ha yeah slowly going in that direction]

[revelation]

Oh... hehe. Memorization isn't exactly my best skill in some ways it seems. [ the embarrassment. ]

Hmm? We need people to help with the baking, decorating the pastries, running the register and other small duties like cleaning.

[speakveryclearly]

[She literally brightens up a bit because she's a weird glowing alien like that.]

Those last two tasks are definitely ones I could perform.

[revelation]

[ madoka giggles, it's really quite an interesting thing to be capable of doing! ]

And if you want, I can teach you how to do the first two as well.

When would you want me to come in? As you might expect I've a very open schedule...

[revelation]

I'm still not completely set on an opening date since we're still finishing everything up, plus my friends and I are moving in upstairs. But! It should be soon, so I'll contact you a few days before. Is that okay?

[speakveryclearly]

Oh! Of course it is. More than okay, actually, the prospect of getting a job is borderline illegal degrees of excellent.

[She takes out her tablet.] Madoka... [Said to herself, not a vocative.] I've got to make a note of this...

[revelation]

I definitely agree, this is wonderful!

[ if she had less control of herself, madoka might literally be shaking right now. ]

Our first employee. [ excuse the grinning. ] It's so exciting!

[speakveryclearly]

I'm thrilled too. My first job!

[...and then she completely innocently uses exactly the wrong word:] Should we draw up some kind of employment contract?

[revelation]

Actually! I already have a few typed up. Just follow me.

[ it's a short walk to the stairs that lead up to the second floor. it's clear the space they enter is supposed to be a living space with a small kitchen area but covered with boxes and cleaning supplies laying about, it's a little harder to tell. ]

Don't mind the mess, my friends and I are in the middle of moving in. [ madoka says this as she digs through one of the boxes for a moment before removing a stack of papers. ] Ah- here we go.

[ the kitchen table is at least set up, decent sized for the four girls living here as she sets two pages down. ]

The most important parts describe all the positions and the responsibilities, your starting salary and a time sheet to fill out. Basically, it's just so we know what days and times are best for you to work.

[speakveryclearly]

[Kanaya obediently follows her new boss up the stairs.] That sounds like a pleasant arrangement. [Her commentary on where Madoka's friends will be living. Business owner and landlady, she's really getting into this capitalism endeavor.

When they reach the table, Kanaya accepts the sheets graciously and spends some time silent as she reads them over. Finally reaching the time sheets, she reaches into her coat to pull out a deep green fountain pen. The contiguous slots she denotes with inked curly braces extend from after midday, around 1, to a time shortly after closing. She hasn't any particular concern with days of the week; those she's selected more to fit the schedule Madoka has presented.]

What do you think of something like this?

[ madoka watches quietly, unable to contain her smile but at least not allowing it to grow to a more embarrassing state of excitement.

as kanaya finishes, she leans over a bit to glance at the green writing. it only takes a brief moment to go over and she nods, grinning excited once again. ]

That sounds wonderful. Mm, I guess that all I have left to say is welcome to the team! I'll try my best to make sure you have the best experience here with everyone.

[speakveryclearly]

[Proudly she signs the dotted line - Kanaya Maryam in cursive, with a little Virgo symbol hook on the M of her own surname. She puts the pen back into her pocket, buttons her coat, and then looks up at Madoka.]

And I'll do my best to be of as much service as possible to you. [Grinning she resolves the papers, which had been spread out as she was reading them, back into a very neat stack.] I'd love to stick around, if you're not too busy with moving in yourself. Or in fact I wouldn't mind helping you with that task either.
