[Closed] line up for the war

Location: VR training rooms at the Hold
Characters: Nate, Remy, Barbara, Nik, Raiden, and the spec ops recruits
Summary: Step one of building a team - make sure they can do things without killing each other.
Warnings: Violence and swearing, probably.


[Rise and shine, kids. At least metaphorically - it's never sunny here. Nate is waiting inside the hold, near the VR training rooms. He looks disgustingly awake for eight in the morning, but that's because he's been up since six and already had two cups of coffee. That, and things are getting accomplished. He likes that. He gives everyone assembled a slightly predatory drill sergent grin]

First team, with me. The rest of you stay here and don't cause trouble - and I will know if you do.

[Arrivals/The Hallway]

[Yes. You get to stand around a hallway for a while. Nate would say he's sorry, but he's not. Be good.]

[ Aurican yawns, revealing rows of very sharp teeth. Granted, he hasn't waken up any earlier than he usually did in his courier occupation, but there are times where he doesn't have to wake up before the sun rise. Still, he is quick to finish off his last of his chicken legs, gobbling it up whole as he breaks his fast. He's been doing a lot of fasting lately, mostly just to keep expenses off. He might have to go hunting outside the city at some point and just store all the meat he acquires. Cheaper that way, but he's not sure if his roommates would be okay with that.

He approaches the water fountain, readying himself to the awkward struggle that is in pressing the level to drink a small amount of water the fountain gives off. ]

[Meliantha comes over, and holds down the bar to allow the water to flow.]

You looked like you could use a smaller hand.

Oh. Thank you.

[ He really should find some way to obtain a human form, despite the obvious drawbacks.

He gives a moment to drink the water before stepping away from the fountain. ]

Are you here for the exercise?

Yes, I am. You are as well, I expect?

Yes. I am hoping to have some kind of combat experience.

[ He takes a step back, not wanting to hog the water fountain if there is anyone else wanting it. ]

It's kind of slow.

[She nods, releasing the button and shifting her shoulder, the blade on it settling into a better position.]

Good luck with that. I'm not too familiar with the combat arts dragons use, but it's always impressive to watch one fight.

We don't do much other than using our breath weapons and bite each other. My nestmates do, anyway, when we play fight or actually fight.

[She nods.] It might be older dragons, then. I fought along side one who was incredibly skilled in the human form he took. Then when he assumed his draconic form, it was amazing. That's when I found out he WAS a dragon.

Pity the dragon we were fighting AGAINST didn't figure that out until it was too late.

[ Aurican feels another surge of jealousy at the mention of shapeshifting. ]

I wish I could turn into different forms. But magic disappeared in my world, and nobody, not even dragons can use it anymore.

[The training room]

[The VR sim starts off in the middle of a forest. It looks like late afternoon from the light filtering down through the trees.]

If you head that way [Nate points off in one direction] you'll eventually find an outpost. Your mission is to get in, take any data they have, and destroy the monitoring equipment, and then get back here.

[Part of Nate is distrustful of having others' help in making his decisions about this team, but the more rational part of him knows that he hasn't run a team in twenty years. He could use then feedback - particularly from a number of points of view. Remy he knows, for better or worse, and trusts. The others are more of a risk - but in this place, all of them are together in this war.]
