By the time the afternoon rolled around, Collette was down and rearranging the towels on the bleachers by the far wall. All those invited were either going to show up or not -- and new people might stop by hearing voices from inside the arched hall of the indoor pool.

Either way, it was a great distraction for her, and she hoped it would be useful for those who wanted to learn or practice swimming, or just have fun diving after rings and pulling them up off the bottom of the pool. Not to mention, maybe people would start diving!

And so it was that the person arranging the whole thing sat in her suit in her borrowed wheelchair (manual when she'd come over in her electrical) at the poolside, examining the lifeguard whistle around her neck with the stopwatch, and leaning over to poke at the lifeguard buoy.

[Lenalee puts her back to the lockers and snaps the leg of her swimsuit, bringing it back from where it'd begun to ride up. Barefoot, her ankles provide the only break in an infinite stretch of leg— even with the fabric in its proper place, it feels like too much— she wraps herself in a yellow towel and considers it the best she can do with what was most accessible to her.

She wishes it didn't smell so strongly of chemicals.]

This place hurts my nose.

I know. [Mumbled, as she adjusts the butt of her suit.]

Who decided people should wear things like this anyway?

[Rin. Sympathy and embarrassment weigh in near-equal on the scales.

Fluster, avert eyes.]

Surely no one who ever deigned to put one on.

Hmph. [Adjust, adjust. she has red lines on her skin from the suit. A sideways glance at Lenalee.]

You don't exactly look excited.

[anklets]

[ the immediate raisings of a smile, lifted at each corner like a sail ]

I think it will be interesting, actually.

It'll definitely be interesting, but some kinds of that are better to watch from a good ways away.

[... look at that smile. Hard to tell if she thinks these circumstances are those.]

Don't you think? [She shrugs, glancing down, finally seeming satisfied with the arrangement of her suit.]

Well, there's no chance of that now.

[ fidgets with a fray in the towel ]

What are you expecting to happen?...

Like... I don't know.

What if the United Earth attacks while we're in our bathing suits? What then?

What if there's an earthquake, and all the water drains out of the pool, and we go with it, and then we're crushed when the earth closes again? [waves hands around demonstratively]

[A pause, and then she laughs. A little nervously BUT TBH IT'S RARELY NOT A NERVOUS LAUGH.]

[anklets]

[Rin... She raises her hands, attempting peace. Don't fear, she's well-accustomed to soothing mania.]

I really don't think either of those will come to pass.

[If it's any comfort, that ridiculousness was at least partially conscious.]

Yeah, it'll probably be something no one even dreamed of instead.

Maybe it will be something nice.

(She looks at Lenalee for a moment and then she laughs, not unkindly.)

Or something nice. It could happen, I guess.

[ and she'll shimmy her towel that bit higher around herself and slip towards the scent of heavily chlorinated water ]

[Rin tails her, walking quietly.]

I can.

[ but only recently has she had any incentive to do so ]

I learned a little bit... [mostly... by getting thrown in the water and having to struggle, go figure.] But most people at my home don't swim.
