( open ) i'll fly you to the moon and back

Date & Time: September 21st - September 30th, 11:59 PM
Location: The Hold, the Moon Base
Characters: Any/all.
Summary: The Transports are evacuating to the Moon Base. Those on the Moon Base try to settle in and figure out their next move. Setting info can be found here.
Warnings: Talk of nuclear warheads and reference to immense loss of life. Please contact the mods should any individual thread get graphically violent or anything else of the sort.
Note: Use date and location tags in your subject headlines! Such as "On the moon, 23rd onward" or "On the spaceship, 25th" or "down at the Hold, 29th."

The Hold is a flurry of activity, grim faced members of the Initiative group directing supplies and people with the subdued air of people facing their own doom, and wondering at how to process the knowledge. None of the Initiative appears unaware of what will happen; their eyes linger on the Transports, expressions pleading, hopeful, doubtful, or immeasurably sad in turn.

Every eight hours, the space ship is sent back up with a load of people and supplies. The pilots are worked until they can't; the AI stolen ages ago by the Initiative greets and corrals people and supplies at both ends, and in the middle step between.

The network continues to broadcast on narrow channels between the Moon Base and Exsilium, up until the time that all connections are lost, with the carrier located en route to Exsilium. The first airship will pass by without dropping anything, but it's too early to celebrate. At a six hour delay from behind, the second airship arrives, and with it, the dark promise of the Black Code's nuclear weaponry.

The six hour window allows for time for those left behind, either by choice or circumstance, to be pulled to the Moon Base with the successful activation of the Transport Pad. New characters will ultimately arrive with the remainder of those not yet on the Moon Base, all in time to witness the explosive contact of the nuclear warhead with the ground of Exsilium live on satellite.

But until then, there's only the hurry, the silence, and the potential for full out rioting should the Transports spread word to the Exiles inevitably left behind to face this fate.

B, obviously

[Sango's become something of an errand-runner herself, even if her focus is more on helping the Exiles than the Transports, who can certainly take care of themselves for the most part. Still, she's led back to the Hold more than once. She's there now, in the dark blue dress that now serves as her civilian outfit, but strangely without Hiraikotsu. Kirara still tails her with every step, even the one that slows ever so slightly when she sees Kang.

After their last conversation, she's not sure she wants to engage. Not out of a grudge (okay... a little out of a grudge) but because she realizes that he's going to want to question her, and probably try and convince her to leave Earth on top of that. She's too proud to go out of her way to avoid him, so she'll just redirect her attention down the hall and keep focused on whatever job it is she's doing.]

[The times that Kang's seen Sango, they've both been busy, so he hasn't gotten a chance to talk to her yet. For a moment, he considers leaving her alone, but her noticing him doesn't escape his attention. It's about time for a break, anyways; he's been packing and loading supplies for almost two hours straight.

He rolls his shoulders, makes sure the boxes aren't going to tip over, and excuses himself to walk over and join her.
]

I haven't seen you in a few days.

[Sango glances towards him as he draws up next to her, perhaps slows a little but doesn't stop.]

Well. Everyone's busy.
governorkang: (Sons-of-bitches command face)

[personal profile] governorkang 2013-10-01 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, they are.

[He smiles wryly. And, bluntly:]

If you find some time to not be busy, though, maybe you can tell me what the hell happened the other day.

[personal profile] taijiya 2013-10-03 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[A sigh. It's not as if this is the kind of thing she can hide forever, though.]

It's complicated.
governorkang: (o rly bozak)

[personal profile] governorkang 2013-10-05 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Try me. I've dealt with plenty of complicated before.
taijiya: (sober)

[personal profile] taijiya 2013-10-09 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sure you have.

[She pauses, wonders how to explain.] There's a person here... well, a creature, I suppose. A Transport who, in its world, formed... a type of magical contract with girls, where the reward is a wish.
governorkang: (Default)

[personal profile] governorkang 2013-10-11 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh no. This is sounding bad already.]

What sort of magical contract?
taijiya: (myoga!)

[personal profile] taijiya 2013-10-14 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[Even on a face so alien, she can sense the contortions that say Sango this was a terrible idea.]

A wish is granted and a person gains magical powers. The catch is that those contracted are pledged to fight disaster-causing creatures called Witches, which don't even seem to show up here. And I'd be fighting them anyway, even without the contract. [She shrugs.] So I made a wish to stop the nuclear strike.
governorkang: (WTF / Are you sure about this)

[personal profile] governorkang 2013-10-15 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
[He's so close to facepalming right now, you have no idea.]

Witches. How much do you know about them?
taijiya: (hurt)

[personal profile] taijiya 2013-10-17 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
They exist inside gaps in reality. They spread suffering wherever they go. And according to Kyubey, only... someone who's made a contract and gained powers [because 'magical girl' sounds really stupid] can defeat them. Though with how many people are so powerful here, I'm not sure that last part still rings true.
governorkang: (Sons-of-bitches command face)

[personal profile] governorkang 2013-10-17 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
Is this Kyubey the only one here from their particular universe?
taijiya: (oh yes)

[personal profile] taijiya 2013-10-20 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
No. Though it's the only one I've spoken to. And I know what you're about to say, that it's only one side of the story, what Kyubey told me--but what does that really matter? If I can do anything to help the people here in the slightest, it's worth it.
governorkang: (What / This is stupid)

[personal profile] governorkang 2013-10-20 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[Kang sighs.]

At what cost, Sango? You have to be very careful with magical contracts.

[personal profile] taijiya 2013-10-20 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Believe me, I know.

[The Sacred Jewel's wish-fulfilling properties inspired greed that destroyed her village. Accepting a similar contract with Kyubey still feels like a betrayal, but...]

But it was a chance to save lives. I could never pass that up. And I'm glad I didn't. [At this she raises her gaze to meet his eyes defiantly. Go on, Kang, try to tell her that the lives of so many aren't worth this.]
governorkang: (Well shit / Disgusting)

[personal profile] governorkang 2013-10-20 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope this decision doesn't end badly, for your sake.

[He's not like her. He doesn't value the lives of the Exiles over his own. But, Sango is a friend, and he doesn't want bad things to happen to her.
taijiya: (sober)

DISREGARD CONTENT OF THREAD ABOVE

[personal profile] taijiya 2013-10-22 01:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[RETCONNING HAPPENED, Sango's explanation of her absence was about some errand she had to run, the meguca shit did not happen!!

After explaining the totally valid reason she had for hanging up on Kang to go run some unnamed errand of vital importance, Sango turns on Kang with a deepening frown.]

Me hanging up isn't the only thing that... needs to be discussed. [She pauses, then quotes his words to Sponde that still ring in her ears.] The best decision that can be made? And--your biggest concern was that other people would be upset with leaving them?

[Kang sighs, and crosses his arms over his chest.]

It is the best decision that can be made to ensure that we can continue to fight this war. Sometimes you have to make hard decisions.
taijiya: (oh yes)

[personal profile] taijiya 2013-11-19 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
It didn't seem to me you found it all that hard.

You don't know us, or our history.

[He shakes his head, and gestures for her to follow him as he starts moving down the hall.]

It's not something I keep hidden.
