Elissa spun around when she heard him falter, prepared to step in, but he handled it just as well on his own. When the smoke cleared and they began to press in on them again, she was ready once more, striking out to keep them at bay.

Her head turned when she heard him coughing and she pulled out one of her spare knives, tossing it at the one closest to her comrade. It didn't quite hit the mark, lodging itself in the underlying tissue of the creature's eye socket, but it kept it away from Duncan long enough for him to recover.
