As Billy listens, something shifts in his facial expression. For a while now, Billy's helped to build up the wall between himself and the Rangers. As he perceives it, it already exists, so why not help to stay separate to keep from getting hurt some more?
Billy has a lot invested in the idea that he's not one of them, that his time is over, that it's his place to be distant. The widening of Billy's eyes and the drooping of his shoulders is the proof that those ideas are weakening in his mind.
When Adam reminds Billy just who he is supposed to be, Billy drops his resistance. Instead, he grazes a hand over the weapon piece strapped to his side. "When I first became a Ranger, I thought it was one of the greatest things that ever happened to me. I was afraid because I knew I wasn't as strong as the others, but I knew someone believed I could help save the world. It's like that again, I guess...except I was the one who stopped believing."
He finally looks up, sheepish. "It's hard, but I have to fight. Whatever form that takes."
