As before, he didn't stay too close. It was a narrow hallway. Encroaching would leave neither of them room to fight. He took the opposite side of the hallway. It didn't afford him the view she had. He trusted her to be the eyes for both of them around the bend.

When he drew near, he crouched lower so that both lines of attack would be covered if something jumped them. He shot a questioning glance at her without speaking aloud. Was there anything in the hall with them that she could see? She wasn't alone in finding the occasional sounds disconcerting.
