Date & Time: Jan 12th to Jan 19th (real time), July 11th to July 18th (historical time), 1884
Location: Black Rock, New Mexico, USA
Characters: All transports
Summary: Fearing UE reprisal, the Initiative corrals all transports and shoos them onto a mission back to the Wild West, to vote Gerald "Moony" Jackson in as Mayor of Black Rock. Transports are encouraged to used all their wiles to encourage townsfolk to vote in favor of him, too. Other than that, they're free to roam as they will for 7 whole days! Good luck finding food and shelter, masses. (See the OOC post for more information.)

The Initiative had been terse and rushed as they gathered the transports into the Transporter room, and anyone unwilling to participate will have been forcibly hurried along. The Initiative employees had seemed distracted and worried, and unwilling to stand around and debate. It was time to move. The teleportation had gone off without a hitch, and a roomful of transports have been treated, quite suddenly, to a broad and sunny blue sky, and especially to the heat of mid July in the American West.

Enjoy your weeklong stay in Black Rock, New Mexico! The town is small and sleepy, with just 3 good saloons and one questionable (but considerably cheaper) one. There are a few inns, but these inns aren't quite prepared to room a sudden influx of over 300 travelers, and some people might have to bunk up or get creative with their sleeping arrangements. If you sleep in an inn at all, of course. There's plenty of unexplored wilderness out there to sleep in instead, isn't there? Just make sure to check your boots for scorpions in the morning.

The only instructions are "vote for Gerald "Moony" Jackson for Mayor, and try to convince others to do the same", and you've been given just enough money to cover a very sparse room and board for 7 days, if you don't spend it in anything else.

[ Lucy didn't like the heat either, but at least she was tolerating it better than Jack was. In fact, not too long after Jack stopped to plop down in the shade somewhere, there is the sound of someone approaching. That someone of course, being Lucy, all decked out in new western style attire. And bearing a drink. It wouldn't be good if someone collapsed from heat stroke or something, which is why she leans down to offer a cool beverage for him, giving him a small, concerned smile. ]

It's not much, but try this. You look like you're ready to melt. [ IN a non literal sense, we hope. ]

[ The sound doesn't quite register to Jack, the heat is making him slow and sluggish and unfocused. It doesn't help that his thoughts are occupied with ways he could get back at the Initiative for doing this to him. Thus, he doesn't notice Lucy until something is being held in his peripheral vision. He looks up, blinking owlishly at the drink and the girl holding it out to him. It takes him a moment to realize that she actually means for him to take it. ]

Thanks. [ He musters a grateful smile as he eagerly takes the drink from her. He doesn't drink it though, he merely takes it between his hands. Liquid was nice, liquid was easy to freeze and that's exactly what he does. He freezes it and then just holds onto it for dear life. The fact he could actually feel the cold of the ice was a worrying one to him. ]

You're welcome. [ Lucy smiles when he takes the glass - but when he freezes it, she blinks in surprise. ]

It's no good if you get sick from the heat out here. [ But why did he freeze it instead of drink it? ]

[ Jack doesn't notice her surprise, as odd as it was to feel it, it was also a huge relief to be holding something cold. He shifts, putting his staff down beside him before leaning back against the wall in a more relaxed position. All the while he keeps the frozen glass close to his body.

Finally, he looks back up at her again with something of a wry expression. ]

I don't really get sick. [ It was more like melting and dying, really. ]

[ FEH, you people and your temperature immunities. ]

You sound like my friends, Gray and Natsu. They never get sick either. [ It's really annoying! ]

Are you going to be all right? Even if you don't get sick, you didn't really look too good.

[ He gives a wry grin, for a second almost tempted to ask if her friends were spirits too, but he refrains. Instead, he focuses on the question and he actually has to ponder that for a moment before he answers, truthfully: ]

I don't know. [ He's never stayed in the heat for long before, doing so would be stupid but now that he's forced to stay in it he has no idea what might happen. No point in making a stranger worry though, so he shrugs his shoulders. ]

I'm sure I'll be fine once it's nightfall. [ If it cooled down at night, that is. But luckily deserts tended to. ]

[ She'd have said yes to it, if he asked - it's just that her spirits were different from the spirits he knew. *cough* ]

Hnn.. [ Well she was going to worry anyway. She can't just leave someone, the way Jack had been looking initially. Besides, it wouldn't be that much longer till nightfall. ...maybe. ]

Mind if I stay with you till then, then? [ Oh right. ] My name is Lucy.

[ Now that really catches him off guard. He blinks up at her uncertainly. ]

I don't mind, but ... [ He looks away to where most of the crowd was before making a vague gesture in that direction. ] Don't you want to go explore or something?

[ If it weren't the blasted heat, that's what Jack would do at least. But right, introductions. ] I'm Jack Frost. You don't have to stay with me, Lucy.

[ She smiles reassuringly, waving a hand. ]

I already looked around a little - and I'd really rather explore with one of my friends. It's more fun that way.

Besides, we'll be here a week. That's plenty of time to explore.

It's nice to meet you, Jack~!

Well, if you're sure ... [ Then he's not going to protest.

Company would actually be rather nice. He manages another, tired smile. ]

It's nice to meet you too, Lucy. Are you new too?

[ She gives Jack a cheery thumbs up. ]

I'm sure~! [ By the time it got late enough to cool off, he should be feeling better, and it would be time to meet up with Erza and Natsu. God help her if she was late. ]

Fairly new, yes. I've been here for a few months - in October. Time seems to really be passing quickly though. What about you?

[ Fine with him! He motions for her to sit, since it would be more comfortable to keep talking that way. ]

They brought me in ... less than a week ago, actually. If a few months is still considered new, I'm not sure if I want to know how long some have been here.

[ And at the invitation, she carefully lowers herself to sit against her heels, adjusting the hem of her minidress neatly. Right then! ]

Well, maybe not -brand- new, but it's not old either. I hate to say it, but I have heard that some people have even been here for a year, or more.

[ That actually makes him physically wince. A year? He couldn't see himself staying for that long. Not in that place going on missions like this. A year might not actually be long compared to how long Jack has lived, but it was still longer than he's ever stayed in one place. ]

That's terrible ...

[ Lucy smiles weakly, resting back against her hands. ]

It's impossible to believe, thinking we'd be stuck in a place like this that long, isn't it. [ She felt worse for the ones who were here by themselves - at least she was lucky, having two of her best friends with her. ]

It's just... motivation for this war to be over as soon as possible, so we can all go home. [ She glanced upwards, shading her eyes slightly. ]

But I think I'll miss the friends I've made here.

[ Jack nods soberly. Both of them were good points and well, a lot of people were able to see him here. If he were send home now, then that was something he would really miss for sure.

There wasn't much point dwelling on it, however. The heat was miserable enough, no need for thoughts to be so miserable too. He straightens, trying for a reassuring smile. ]

We'll just have to make the best of the time we do have.
