Date & Time: Jan 12th to Jan 19th (real time), July 11th to July 18th (historical time), 1884
Location: Black Rock, New Mexico, USA
Characters: All transports
Summary: Fearing UE reprisal, the Initiative corrals all transports and shoos them onto a mission back to the Wild West, to vote Gerald "Moony" Jackson in as Mayor of Black Rock. Transports are encouraged to used all their wiles to encourage townsfolk to vote in favor of him, too. Other than that, they're free to roam as they will for 7 whole days! Good luck finding food and shelter, masses. (See the OOC post for more information.)

The Initiative had been terse and rushed as they gathered the transports into the Transporter room, and anyone unwilling to participate will have been forcibly hurried along. The Initiative employees had seemed distracted and worried, and unwilling to stand around and debate. It was time to move. The teleportation had gone off without a hitch, and a roomful of transports have been treated, quite suddenly, to a broad and sunny blue sky, and especially to the heat of mid July in the American West.

Enjoy your weeklong stay in Black Rock, New Mexico! The town is small and sleepy, with just 3 good saloons and one questionable (but considerably cheaper) one. There are a few inns, but these inns aren't quite prepared to room a sudden influx of over 300 travelers, and some people might have to bunk up or get creative with their sleeping arrangements. If you sleep in an inn at all, of course. There's plenty of unexplored wilderness out there to sleep in instead, isn't there? Just make sure to check your boots for scorpions in the morning.

The only instructions are "vote for Gerald "Moony" Jackson for Mayor, and try to convince others to do the same", and you've been given just enough money to cover a very sparse room and board for 7 days, if you don't spend it in anything else.

So, how do you spend your time?

Edit: Overflow log!

[His eyebrows arch at that. His parents had told him about the spirits of the seasons when he was young, but he'd long ago stopped really believing there was any real truth to such things. Admittedly, he'd sort of had that whole lack of belief turned on its ear when he'd visited Halloween Town and Christmas Town, but that was neither here nor there.]

Oh. [He sort of nods, as if in affirmation, though whether he's agreeing with Jack or just sort of wrapping his brain around this isn't really clear. Then he grins a bit.] Jack Frost, huh? Never knew the guardian of winter actually had a name, so I'll make sure to memorize it for next time. I'm Axel.

[ Both the arched eyebrows and 'oh' with the nod bring a sense of anticipation for Jack. It's one he always tries to suppress because often in the past it had only been quickly followed up by disappointment, but it's not something he could help. Exsilium had come with an extra game of do they or do they not know of him in their world?

But when it appears that this guy actually does know it brings a relieved smile to his face. ]

Of course I do, everyone needs a name. Nice to meet you, Axel!

I suppose that's true; I guess I never really thought about it.

[He regards him a moment, looking contemplative.]

So do you represent a holiday or something, too? Or just all of winter in general? [He's wondering if there was a door to some realm of yours in the Hinterlands of Halloween Town, too.]
frorn: (HOW DID ALL OF US MISS THE OBVIOUS:)

[ He tilts his head curiously at the thoughtful look he's getting and quickly shakes it at the question. ]

Nope, just winter in general. If you want a winter holiday, you'll want North— uh, Santa.

Not all of us represent a holiday.
got_it_memorized: (thanks but no thanks)

sorry for the wait!

Oh, you know him? [Imagine how weird it will be to learn that the Santa Axel knows of is the one from Nightmare Before Christmas...] Never met him, but I visited his place once.

Sounds kinda nice, though, not having to deal with the pressure. Christmas is such a big deal; I don't think I'd want all that responsibility, not even for just one day.
frorn: (I woke up with Pop Rocks stuck to my ass)

it's fine!

[personal profile] frorn 2013-02-19 09:59 am (UTC)(link)
Of course! [ But yeah, that gets a questioning squint because how would he have ever gotten past the Yetis when Jack never managed it? ] Wait, you mean like you visited the North Pole or his workshop?

And just having a holiday isn't so bad. Imagine having to work every night and day, because that's what Sandman and the Tooth Fairy have to do. Now that's even harder.
got_it_memorized: (ah ah ah~ you didn't say the magic word~)

[Why does the kid look so surprised?] Well, yeah! I was sent on a mission there once. [He sort of makes a face.] Well, the mission wasn't to Santa's place, just nearby, but... I sort of stumbled my way over there anyway. Couldn't resist doing a little recon, you know? [He shrugs and leans back on his hands again.] Didn't really see too much, though; I figured it'd be rude to just break into the workshop. Don't wanna end up on the naughty list, after all.

[And then he grimaces, sticking his tongue out.]

Man, every night? No days off? That's for the birds. I'm not sure who Sandman and the Tooth Fairy are, but it sounds like they could use a vacation.

[ Oh okay, that made sense then. Jack grins again, nodding. ] Good call, you probably wouldn't have gotten past the Yetis anyway. I never did.

[ Although knowing Santa, but not Sandy and Tooth, was a little odd to Jack, it was still better than not knowing any of them at all in his book and so he just shrugs. ]

You tell me. I don't think they ever get days off, but I doubt they mind.

Yetis? [He's not even sure what a yeti is, but sounds like they're bruisers from the way the kid's talking about them.] The place was pretty quiet when I was there, so I didn't see any yetis. I think. I'm not sure what one looks like.

[And then he looks caught between being impressed and grimacing in pain.]

Man, they must really love their work if they can't even complain about never having a day off. What do they do?

[Really, even if he didn't have to fill out reports for the Organization here, Axel couldn't really hide his curiosity. Recon had always come easily to him because he was just honestly interested in learning about new places. When faced with the idea of being able to travel to many worlds, the idea of spending your whole life stuck on just one seems so dull to him!]

Really? [ Aaaand back to the confused frown he goes. ] They're always there, they're the ones who make the toys after all. They're like these big furry creatures, really hard to miss.

[ Jack nods, smiling somewhat fondly. To be a Guardian you truly had to love your job, he sure had figured that one out quickly. ]

When a kid loses a tooth, they stick it under their pillow at night and the Tooth Fairy will come and take that tooth and leave a gift behind. Usually a quarter. As for the Sandman...

Well, where do you think dreams come from? That's Sandy's work.
