"Why don't you take a few deep breaths for me, and when you're feeling better we can go look for the monster together. We can make sure it doesn't hurt anyone?" She doubts there's an actual monster, it's more likely something innocuous has scared the girl, which means Steph wants to first calm her down, then reassure her about whatever has caused the panic. And, well, if it is an actual monster, Steph can probably handle it.
