MISSION: GET TO ZE CHOPPA

Summary: All transports are sent back to Uruguay to download a self-aware AI before it gets bombed out of existence by an early incarnation of the UE. Time distortion effects will be set right either on the way there or on the way back, according to player choice.
Warnings: violence, action movie tension, 3 terabytes of foot fetish porn.

The Transporter drops the entire transport population into what will quickly be established as Home Base, a mile from the vast, sprawling facility that is Uruguay's National Defense HQ. The low roar of helidrones moving above is pervasive, but the black ships can only be glimpsed here and there through the thick cover of trees overhead. If you keep calm and quiet, it's likely you won't be spotted. It's the UND HQ their attention is on, after all.

The population is quickly sorted by attending Initiate employees according to who volunteers to fight and who volunteers to protect, along with those with enough skill to access the computers, and those with enough skill to get them there. The fighters move out first, off to intercept the early UE's ships and ground troops, and to draw the automated defense systems of the facility alike. They'll be in a crossfire, and neither side will be happy to see them there.

The techies and their escorts are sent out far more quietly, in groups of three. Their task is to sneak past the front lines and into the facility itself. There might be alarms and automated defense drones, so those escorts may well be called on to earn their keep. The Initiative can't give any information about which building will house the AI's mainframe, that information was long since lost to history. All they can do is send out enough people to hope that one of them manages to find it.

And remember — as soon as the UE troops withdraw, there will only be minutes until the bomb drops. Everyone would do well to work fast.

[ That gets just a nod because, well, hey, that's kind of personal. Even if he wasn't really the one who wrote it. He's just the useless younger version that can't even regenerate his energy at a half-way decent rate. He glances down. ]

I am sorry that it's me, here, instead.

[Oh, lawd, don't be like that. Koltira groans.]

Don't--it's not that. It's the way you're looking at me, for the Light's sake.

[outofsp]

[ That gets him to glance back, a little confused. ]

I'm not — how do you mean? [ sure you're dead and disgusting and stuff, but c'mon surely that's not showing on his face ]

You're behaving as though you're moments away from fleeing in terror.

[ there's a little flash of something like anger here, because it sounds an awfully lot like Koltira just called him a coward. ]

I'm not. You may be unholy, but I don't fear you.

[ er, is that rude, calling someone unholy... ]

[Rude as hell, kid! Koltira's scowl deepens.]

No? [He takes a few steps forward, dragging Byfrost along the ground behind him, cutting into the earth. He stops just a few inches away from Ashraf; hisses.]

Really?

[outofsp]

[ oh god this is terrifying, and it shows well in his face. This is the sort of creatures priests deal with — high priests, even. What hope does an acolyte have? But even fear can't stifle that temper, and in a few seconds he sets his jaw with a scowl. ]

Really. [ One of his hands has dropped to the spiked mace kept hooked to his belt, for what good it would do, but efficiency isn't the top thought in his mind. ] I won't fear anything like you.

[deadelfwalking]

[Koltira leans over, exhaling ice-cold breath onto Ashraf's face.]

Your pounding heartbeat begs to differ.

[outofsp]

[ Okay, well, his heart is definitely beating out of his chest by now, but that's about as much intimidation tactics as Ashraf can take. He shoves hard against Koltira's chest, teeth gritted, and drops a hand to loosen the mace. ]

You're mistaking fear for disgust.

[deadelfwalking]

[Given the weight of his armor--as well as his own considerable size--Ashraf's push doesn't move Koltira much at all. Except to RAGE, that is.]

You were certainly an insolent child, Ashraf.

[outofsp]

I'm not a child.

[ Out comes the mace, and... yeah okay he has to step back to have enough room for swinging space, since his shove hadn't actually done any good. He squares himself, glaring. ]

If you're going to attack me, then get it over with.

[deadelfwalking]

I'm not bloody well going to attack you.

[Koltira stares at the mace with an 'oh please' kind of expression.]

You're free to give it your best shot with that toy, though.

[outofsp]

[ he HONESTLY CONSIDERS IT for a second or two, then jams the mace back into his belt with a scowl. ]

Don't come near me, and I'll have no need to.

[ The intention here is to storm away past Koltira, giving him a parting shove to push him from his path, but mostly it just ends up being that Ashraf bounces off him and has to correct his steps to manage a proper storming off. dammit. ]
