She does comprehend the concept - she's not sure what an airplane is but she can piece together that it's some kind of transportation technology (obviously outdated by rocket ships back in a civilized universe) by context. On the other side of the world every day IMing her nocturnal friends, she understood that times could be different and disorienting. She doesn't find this intelligent, scientific girl's assumption of it suspicious. But...
