falling down can feel strange no one remembers your name;

Date & Time: tonight, late-ish.
Location: outside one of the training rooms in the hold.
Characters: gambit & cable.
Summary: being a mutant is suffering.
Warnings: n/a

He’ll admit it, and readily—he’s angry. He’s worked very hard to make connections in this place, to keep his head down, to not be bogged down by his past or his guilt or any number of other things. And then Nathan arrives and it all comes crashing down. Asking about him, publicly, on the Network? Did he really have no better methods?

Of course he did, and Remy should be glad he didn’t use them. But the last thing he wants is for people to worry about him, and Cable calling attention to him is going to do just that. It had been Nill, first, but what if Collette or Ygritte—or Kate—decides to come checking up next? There’s only so many situations he can talk his way out of. And he doesn’t want to give them answers.

(Like that’d go over well, anyway.

“Why does Cable hate you, Remy?”

“Well, y’see, I was kinda workin’ for the devil and I stole his baby. Don’t worry, I did it for the sake a’ true love.”

“I see. That makes it all better.”)

He’s waiting outside the training room, the one he knows Nathan entered a little while ago. He’s leaning against the wall across from the doorway, biding his time. For Remy, that always means shuffling cards, so that’s what he does. Over and over, under and back, shuffle shuffle shuffle, until—

Ah. There’s Cable.

“Hello, homme. We need ta talk.”

It had just been basic training, today - trying to force his body back into fighting condition, which is a task that gets harder every year. So when he steps of the training room, there's no psimitar, no guns, just Nate, clearly worn out, wearing a t-shirt that does nothing to hide the damage the T-O did to the left side of his body as Hope purged it.

When he seems Remy, he can make an educated guess about what they need to talk about.

"You're angry I asked about you on the network." He doesn't have to be a mind-reader to know some things.
