Mami diverts her attention from fending off the rioters long enough to glance from Kahlan to Nikita once, then twice. Her eyes are cold, full of a focused intelligence as she sizes the two women up. She doesn't see them as adults who could potentially offer her safety, because in that respect Mami is far from a child; she has a task to do here, and she'll accept their help if they choose to offer it, but not their protection. The latter is something Mami cynically expects them to attempt....because after all, that's the way of grown-ups. Before she responds to either of them, though, there's the matter of the crowd - the seething mass of people surging forward yet again, affording little time for conversation.

But Mami can remedy that easily enough. With a series of graceful gestures, she binds her ribbons together into a massive whip, thick and sturdy and dangerous for all that it is ultimately made of mere cloth. A snap of her fingers; it lashes out at the tide of rebels, quick and merciless, slapping them aside like so many flies. They hit the ground and are, for now, content to groan out their pain rather than stumble upright again.

As the dust settles around them during this brief lull, Mami offers a nod to Kahlan. "Thank you, miss, but I'm fine. If you're trying to get somewhere, I suggest you hurry on your way before they get back up again." A meaningful glance toward the rioters, who are struggling to recover quickly from Mami's onslaught. Next she regards Nikita, considers her for a moment, then nods again in acknowledgment. "And it's not my first time, no, but I think that's neither here nor there. You ought to move along too, miss."

She turns her back on the both of them, conjuring more ribbons to deal with the horde that will inevitably fall upon her again.

"I have things handled here."
