Date & Time: 06/30, Night
Location: Lake, Hold's Outskirts
Characters: [personal profile] Martin Septim & [personal profile] Feferi Peixes
Summary: Martin suffers from homesickness and draconic impulses, Feferi tries to help
Warnings: Drama, sea monster(s)!

[ Martin hugs his knees closer, keeping the night's chill at bay, trying not to think of his homeland. Fake cheer only worked for so long, the pleasant, polite tones of a detached diplomat wearing down as more people arrived.

Delphine had come and gone. Perhaps her disappearance was his fault, having been largely inattentive of her presence. By the time Martin tried to correct his mistake, she'd been gone for hours, her registry wiped clean from the 'network' as it was called.

Automatically, he dove into research, both new and old. It was easier to ignore the soul-sucking loneliness when your mind was occupied. Of course, it'd been easier when he was younger, a licentious apprentice at the Mages Guild, an Imperial who didn't need friends, only pawns. But with age came wisdom, and with wisdom, duty.

He was a Septim now, not a surnameless peasant from the farmlands with nothing to lose. His duty towards Tamriel, towards his citizens, was paramount. Burdening others with his pathetic problems wasn't becoming of an Emperor, even if he wasn't in Tamriel anymore.

And to wish for a citizen of his, anyone, to show up in this realm, to be coerced into a war not of their making, that was selfishness. He shouldn't waste the second chance at life Akatosh gave him, even if he constantly asked himself if it would've been better to end up in Aetherius, as he thought he would when he sacrificed himself.

At least I would've met my father...

Even the Flame Cloak can't keep Martin from shivering. And with the fire spell raging, he can't lie down on the bed roll he's placed onto the ground. At least choosing the small swatch of land in the middle of the lake means no one will disturb him, whether he cries, screams or sets the entire ground ablaze. ]

[ For Feferi, being somewhere with easy access to a large body of water was a godsend. Her last few months in New Mexico, she had been wary of the reservoir, after an incident with a boat, but the lake here seemed much calmer, and she was able to swim freely. At every opportunity, she would take to the water, and considering the native's unrest and how much it reminded her of the distrust of imports, she wanted to be as inaccessible as possible.

She didn't expect to see anyone or anything else out here, though.

Spotting movement and light above the surface of the water, Feferi's attention is drawn towards it, more on whim than anything. She swims closer, several yards off shore, where her feet barely miss the ground. First her horns surface, then the top of her head and her goggled eyes, peering at the spectacle. Was there a person in there? They looked like they might be a little bit on fire, if there was. ]

Hello?? Are you okay?

[ Except what comes out is just bubbles, lots of them, her nose and mouth still underwater. ]

[ Feferi dips back underneath the water only to pop up a few yards away, but still no closer to the shore. This time, she manages to get her whole head above water. ]

What are you doing?
