I'm A Disappearing Act Done Poorly (OPEN)

Date & Time: July 29th
Location: Exsilium
Characters: Kanaya Maryam and you
Summary: Back from her month of missions, Kanaya sees the expected parties and distributes the stress baking she did while gone, then goes to the library.
Warnings: None to start.

For Painwheel
Kanaya comes through the door of unit 505 beaming, literally as is her supernatural wont. She holds in each of her hands a needlework rectangle dangling on string: One for "PAINWHEEL" and one for "NANAMI".

"I'm home, girls! And I may or may not have come back bearing a little something for all three of us..."

For Friends
It's been too long for her taste, the separation from Exsilium. She wants to exchange the interminable crush of faceless human crowds for some individuals who are actually important. Asuka she seeks out almost as soon as she's checked in with Painwheel. The Blindfold Brigade on the other hand will get their visit late, after dinner, since she didn't have time to update her file until taking her reprieve in the library.

The Bakery
She showes up for work an hour early. A total of two dozen cookies, muffins, and small cakes accompany her arrival, placed onto an empty table. "I'm sorry my mission took so long. As you can see there was quite a bit of free time. In fact I was wondering if any of you would be interested in taste-testing these...?"

They're an improvement on her first few subpar cooking attempts, but still mediocre and made off assorted recipies, these baked goods aren't fit to be sold, likely gone by the time the shift starts. And once Kanaya's on the clock? She tries to stay out of sight as much as possible, even darting in and out flash-like if the task at hand can be accomplished in short order. Otherwise she lurks in back rooms, occupying herself with not repelling the customers.

The City Streets
From the Hold to the bakery, and between the bakery and the library, Kanaya can be found on the streets of Exsilium. Her steps are brisk, but not as quick as she is capable, because that would cause quite the scene. The hood of her sweater is drawn almost tightly enough around her head to conceal her alien coloring and features. In the grim weather, at least her glow is difficult to see. Unfortunately, there's nothing to be done about the horns for which she had to cut holes, and once a xenophobe notices those she's done for. A shout of "freak!" or worse follows her at least once per block, sometimes augmented by a shove. She keeps her head down, doesn't think about how easy it would to break any dozen of these detractors' necks, and pushes her capacity for reasonable briskness to its limit.

The Library
She comes here for the first time in weeks, even disregarding her month of missions. There had always been medicine and baking and training, but the plague is over and she already dropped by work and what point is there in training today after four straight weeks of actual operation? So she takes refuge in books. Either she languishes through the shelves looking for her next volume or she is curled up in a comfy chair. She also has her tablet with her, catching up on the network between chapters with the aid of white wireless earbuds, preserving the silence of the institution.

For Rin
At one point she combs through the alphabet to find TSU - where something is strange about the luxurious volume she has plucked from the shelves. Though the sequence of delicately colored pictures looks right - crane, woman, crane - underneath them black ink forms not neat curves and lines but luxurious swooping shapes. Neither the human alphabet nor Daedric script has any analogues to this. Thoroughly puzzled, Kanaya takes the book with her to a table and sits hunched, poring over the pages as if staring long enough will make them meaningful to her.
