Dating. An activity among Lilim shrouded in a truly confounding amount of complexity. The topic of an endless number of works of fiction. The subject of an endless amount of stress from adolescence into adulthood. Something that was meant to be casual but was nevertheless obsessed over. It was one of the many things about their culture that Kaworu didn't understand and, frankly, would never have wanted to understand.

But here he was, standing in the hallway leading to a half dozen simulation rooms similar to the one back in old Exsilium. He was dressed as if it were any other day, with the old coat that he purchased on his arrival buttoned halfway up. His hands hung loosely inside the pockets, pulling the garment flat with their weight. If someone passed the angel by on the way down the hall, they probably wouldn't spare him a second glance, but even that was unlikely considering the time of night Kaworu asked Shinji to meet here.

Shinji would come. Kaworu was certain of that, even if his acceptance had been wishy-washy. A solid answer would have been uncharacteristic of him; the one thing the boy couldn't deal with was obligation. Don't say you'll go, say you'll "probably" go. If you're disappointed, it's fine - you weren't that interested anyway. He could practically hear the words being said in Shinji's voice.

But Shinji's real desire had always been as clear as day to Kaworu. No... not a desire, but a need. A need that had never changed because it had never been met. So he'll show up, because this invitation was an offer for nothing more than what he's always wanted.

What made it possible now was permission.
