It seemed like a good idea at the time...
Date & Time: 2698, fin-de-millenium, just prior to the formation of the United Earth
Location: Las Vegas
Characters: Break, Kevin, Gilbert, Oz, Elliot, Alice, Allen, Lenalee, Rosette, Chrono, Chrysos
Summary: Fear and loathing
Warnings: Showgirls and Gilbert weeping.
The statement “Let’s go to Vegas” exists as the multiverse’s quintessential definition of, “well it seemed like a good idea at the time.” Even in this case, it really had, between zombies, insurrection, and the day to day tedium of life on the moon. Besides which, Xerxes Break has a new sentient (sentient-er) weapon, which in a stunning show of good judgement is too dangerous to test on the moonbase, nor in any concentration of people. Las Vegas, set against the backdrop of the vast, desolate Mojave desert, seemed to be a perfect choice.
When our heroes wink into existence, squinting against the early-morning desert sunshine, they’ll find themselves duly welcomed. Come play in the casino. When you feel a bit peckish, indulge in all you can eat. Take your winnings and go shopping; at night, take in a show. And if you’ve done really well gambling, unwind in a ridiculously luxurious suite.
…or is this how you’re spending the night?
Thirty-six hours in Vegas, what could possibly go wrong?
(ooc: feel free to start threads willy-nilly, name your time and place, threadjack and mingle)

[ And the handicapped, and others with trouble walking. It's a sensible mechanism, in its own way, with the sensor-activated aspect to it so that it only moves as needed, and no more. The walkway itself is segmented-- a belt, or at least a looping system of the kind-- it's a shame most of the mechanism's concealed, it would be useful to really get an idea of the design involved...
(Eying the walkway thoughtfully as he trails off, scratching at the back of his neck, eventually stooping to crouch and touch the moving surface itself, with an expression Oz might not have been privy to before; not quite unlike an avid reader with his book.) ]

After a few moments more, he stands again, dusting his fingers on a trouser leg--- and, abruptly reminded of Oz's presence, there's a moment's awkward blinking before the lines on his brow settle back in again. ]
They've certainly spared no expense in constructing this place.

They haven't. ( he looks upwards, where the ceilings are high if unadorned, and then to the side, at the windows appearing periodically on the far wall, giving a nice view of the city. ) We've been a lot of places, but I've never seen anything like this before. Even — ( he raises and drops a foot gently, just drawing attention to the moving ground beneath them ) — this is pretty incredible. I didn't know people could make something like this.

Well. She'd certainly have a field day. Or year. ]
"The impossible is only that for which the right tools are not yet made."
[ Hands in his pockets, fingering their contents thoughtfully, as he eyes their conveyance again. ]
Or so it's often said.

I've never heard that before, ( says, interested ) but it makes sense! There are a lot of things I've seen since being here that would be called impossible where I come from.

Stepping off the walkway's end, he glances at Oz, one eyebrow raised. ] To be fair, I'd wager that someone of your world, but a few centuries in the past, would consider some of the things in your present equally impossible.

( he more or less trips off the end of the walkway, distracted by sounding out that name. sounds like something he might've read about, the name, but that's all the familiarity he gets from it. )
That's true, isn't it, ( he says, and it's not quite a question. he wonders if that's how jack feels about awakening in their world a century later, how he and oswald feel about this one and their somarium.
but then he notices another sign for KNIGHTS AND JOUSTING and gets distracted — surely, nothing deliberate — and starts in that direction )
I think it's nearby!

[ He might have spent longer than a moment dwelling on how it's been half a year since the last time he heard someone else speak the name of his homeland--- were it not for Oz's perking up and promptly pulling his attention sideways. He follows closely as they follow the trail of helpful signs, winding through covered walkways and increasing numbers of people, making sure not to lose his companion.
Until, audible over the ambient chatter: "...next show in twenty! Get your tickets here, only a few seats left! Special prices for kids under twelve!" ]
