winds and words

Date & Time: 12/16-8
Location: wild and windy world around all the homes and the things
Characters: Martin, others
Summary: An excuse for conversation with a fluffdog
Warnings: woof

The dog had probably gotten lost from a team, or maybe strayed too far from a pen or home of some sort...that's the best Martin could think, not knowing much about how animals were tended to. He could only think of himself in its shoes – paws – and how sometimes it was better to just be away.

It probably wasn't the same thing, considering the fluffy, stocky little snow dog seemed right at home where it was, whereas the lion...There had been no arguments with anyone as to whether or not he'd belonged.

He apologized to the dog, regardless, and let him sniff his hand and clothes and follow him along as he continued walking. He'd walked until he found no other footsteps in the latest snow cover, and even then kept walking. The human fear came and went with blasts of wind or particular chills, but he wasn't overcome. He could call for Koltira, call anyone on that tablet he carried...he was safe, he was sure.

The hill he stopped and sat on let him see a few twinkling lights of above-ground work here and there along the landscape, and that made him fear even less. I guess I don't go as far as I could...

The first time, hadn't he walked straight out to the ocean?

The dog got comfortable at his side, pressing close for added warmth. Martin found himself sitting in a cold that wasn't unpleasant at all, and somehow it made him feel less muddled. All the questions he could ask himself...and he could piece answers together, little by little. Or try to.

For those moments where there were no questions or answers at all, he drew lines and letters in the snow at his side, or snuck a bite of the food he'd pocketed. It was enough to be there, wasn't it? In a place where he wouldn't be, had it been his will alone at work.

And just like that, questions again. And again and again...
