Date & Time: New Years Eve.
Location: Around whatever passes for a town and its immediate outskirts.
Characters: Dirk Strider and ???
Summary: Dirk is kind of bored and contemplative so he tries to occupy his attention with things. Like making a lopsided snowman.
Warnings: None I can think of. If something warning-worthy comes up, I'll edit.
Today, Dirk's decided he's going to get his roam on. Basically that means there's three possible ways you can find Dirk today. He's a dude who likes to keep himself occupied, though he's been doing a shitty job of that since he came here (or too good a job, depending on your perspective). Actually, today he's doing a pretty bad job of it too. But it's New Years, he's allowed to stand around uselessly and gawk at nothing in particular, right? Right. And, hey, at least the area is covered with snow instead of ocean. Not that that's an improvement, and if he were being honest he'd say he prefers the oceanic view to the blizzard one.
A.) In the town. During the early parts of the morning, Dirk attempts to be slightly productive while bundled as tightly as possible (his hair, sadly, suffers from the bundling. He's going to have hood hair for sure). Or at least, as productive as loitering around the town, sizing up buildings and trying to see if he can find better living quarters than his current arrangements can be. He's honestly not that picky a guy, nor does he need too much to survive. Or, well, he didn't before he was faced with a goddamn snow world. Heat, sun, and water he can live with; ice and snow is another thing altogether.
So, yeah, he's looking for a warmer building to situate himself in. Or materials to make a warm cabin. He's no carpenter but at this point, he's willing to give it a try. That and he doubts a metal cabin would be all that warm. Or warm period. He keeps an eye open for buildings that look serviceable, or just anywhere that looks like it has a surplus of building supplies laying around. He doesn't have too much to trade, but hey, maybe someone will take an I.O.U.?
B.) Outside the town. The cold is definitely getting to him by this point. Shit, why did they have to be in snow? Ok, it's cool (Fuck, there's a joke in there somewhere). He can do this. And by do this he means wander around the brush and try to collect enough stray branches for a fire. It's a simple enough process. You collect wood, put it together, grab stuff that will help it ignite. Dirk spends the better part of an hour collecting branches, freezing his fingertips practically off his hand (even with the gloves), and then setting them somewhere that looks... dry.
It takes a while to actually get the fire going, even if he is more accustomed to the process than he was when he first came down to this snowy wonderland. To be honest, he's kind of cheating when it comes to actually igniting the branches. He has to his sword up to the branches and mutter something at it, which magically makes his sword catch on fire for a few seconds. It's not that long, but it is long enough for him to set his bundle of wood alight. He has to repeat the process every now and then over the next few hours while he zones out and thinks but, hey, at least he's warmer than before? And he's actually out of his hovel, which is a plus. He's been way too cooped up for way too long.
C.) Still outside the town, this time in the evening. The cold has probably gotten to his head, or his skull is filled with too many thoughts that all revolving around Exsilium, Jake, Roxy, Jane, and his home. He's thinking a lot about their situation, and whether he should finally get off his ass and contact Jake. There's space, and then there's just ignoring his best bro. Which, he has to admit, he might have been doing unintentionally. Or Jake is ignoring him, it's hard to tell at this point. At the very least, he needs to check in, figure out what's going on, see what he knows, and then form a plan.
But not yet. For now, he's just going to build a snowman way too close to his fire and watch it kind of melt and slide over thanks to the heat from his fire.
