[this is overdue and he knows it. he can't help the eight days he was unconscious, but the days following...he should've been following up. and that's more reason to do what he's got his mind set to do.

[that's all he needs. just a brief thank you, and that's all she hears until he comes knocking some forty minutes later.]

[ she opens the door quickly, waits until he's inside to close it and usher him towards the kitchen, where she's set up at the table with a mug of tea. ]

I can make more if you'd like some. What did you need?

You needn't trouble yourself. [same as he's always said, following her lead. he hesitates at the back of one of the chairs, settling his hands on the back of it for a beat before pulling it out and sitting down.]

I had to talk to you about your police force.

Ah. [ That small, bordering on nonexistent thing. She makes a slight face and then nods. ] Go ahead.

[firstroar]

[it's about to exist on an even smaller scale:] I have to resign. What uses I had to offer for your cause...[shaking his head.] They're fading fast.

[ wilted is not quite the right word to use for her expression, but there is a touch of sorrow seeping into her professional reserve. ] I'm sorry to hear that. Your help has been greatly appreciated.
