duets
Date & Time: Sometime after the all-clear
Location: A broken city
Characters: Ranka Lee, Simmaeri
Summary: songs old and young
Warnings: broken english?
I left life and wife to wield a spear for my lord,
I left to paint fields with the blood of his foes.
They weren't familiar words by sound, but by meaning, hardly new. A weary soldier's lament, loud and long in sounding through broken and vacant streets in Exsilium. Simmaeri was no soldier, no, but she knew the stories, sang the songs...made them immortal, like she herself.
She walked, stepping over broken concrete, gliding past shattered panes of glass reflecting her a dozen-plus times for the moment she was there. Her voice bounced off rubble and sturdier things, carrying a grieving man's story to the new world. Long dead in his own, he had a home and audience again.
I came home to life and wife and found none.
Another lord's spears painted my fields.
Now there is no home but war.
