Location: The Initiative Hold & Courtyard.

Summary: New Transports arrive and are shuffled into the Courtyard after their initial briefings.
Warnings: None.

You've just been hustled and bustled through mazes of information and literal, wide corridors of the Initiative Hold and you've been equipped with your weapon—be it a gun, a sword, or even your existing powers. They've handed you this light netbook and a small pouch of coins (or a debit card, if you're more inclined), and there are several Transports before and after you going through the very same motions. You can hear the Greeter's voice as she walks alongside large groups, telling them all about the history of this place and sharing with you your purpose here in a hurried and urgent tone. "You're in luck that we have enough rooms for all of you; the housing building is getting awfully full. Please, let me show you into the courtyard."

You pass what looks like huge gymnasiums, all with dummies and targets strewn and splayed around the room. Training areas. There are even classrooms, and a few small offices. You're rushed past a large library while the Greeter informs you that you can find almost all your information there, if you've got the time to look—and trust her, you'll have time. You don't spend a lot of time in the bank, and it's a bit of a blur of exchanges with more and more of these strangely-accented and oddly polite-seeming members of the Initiative.

Soon enough, you're in a massive courtyard bustling with all the other Transports. It's not exactly what you'd expect, and it looks more like barracks than anything—huge walls of concrete and stone, separating you from all of the hallways you'd just passed through. It's raining heavily, and dark clouds loom in the air, though it hasn't turned to snow. It's a chill cold, and there are shelters—long cloth hangings that extend from the walls of concrete to house you from the rain, but not enough. Most notably, the courtyard is filled with a marketplace. Even in the cold and the rain, there are several citizens seated at their covered booths and tables, bundled up against the weather. They're selling all manner of their own handmade goods and foods, and citizens and Transports alike are traveling from one small covered shop to another in search of all manner of necessities. Now and then around you you might spot paper fluttering in the faint wind from somewhere relatively dry. It looks like a list.

The Greeter's voice has become so faint now, but you swear you can make it out in the back of the crowds as she tells you, "Good luck. Be safe!"

Her voice is drowned out by the busy marketplace, though even the transactions taking place are somewhat subdued. Nobody is overly happy, really, though most citizens can be found with smiles on their faces. It doesn't seem like they're that shocked to see you, either; even if you're not bound in tattered rags and wrapped in heavy shawls as they are. You're welcome to walk up to a shop, and find yourself something to eat—hey, maybe you'll even find something akin to a raincoat. Or, you can join the others under the coverings against the walls. Where am I? What war? She was talking so fast, and it didn't all make very much sense… did anyone else catch it all?

Welcome to the courtyard. Welcome to the Initiative Hold—and most importantly, welcome to Exsilium.

[someone happens to be in the cookie tent herself, attempting to be a greeter and really just standing around awkwardly, as if she has no idea what she's doing. Because she doesn't, really.

At this moment, she has a (fresh) cup of coffee in one hand and a cookie in the other, idly chewing on it while she watches people pass by. Kano catches her eye and she watches him for a moment, curious]

[After passing by the cookie table, he feels someone watching and looks over. Ah... he doesn't really recognize her. But maybe she's a newbie.

He waves with a cheerful smile.] Hello, hello!

[she nods back with a tentative smile; he may not recognize her by looks, but her way of talking certainly narrows it down]

Good day. Welcome?

[Bingo! That voice definitely is familiar. He thinks he knows who it is, but he'll play dumb for a little bit. Kano closes the distance, clapping his hands together.]

Ah, shouldn't I be saying that to you~?

[she tilts her head, then quickly finishes off the cookie so she has a hand free, waving it dismissively]

My, not at all. Today marks two months since I have been here.

Two months, huh? That's a real long time! What're you doing down here for?

[she gestures to the cookies with her free hand]

Greeting people and inviting them to cookies. [a pause, and an impish look]

And when I am not doing that, I am standing here awkwardly because this is quite unlike what I normally do.

[He chuckles.] Ah, let me guess, let me guess... setting bad guys on fire is more your thing, right?

[she blinks, taken aback for a moment.

Then bursts into laughter, the set of her shoulders relaxing]

I would not say it is more my thing, but it is most certainly easier than this.

[Identity confirmed! He grins, folding his hands behind his back. The flyers crinkle.]

I don't blame you! Starting fires would be a lot more lively than greeting strangers sometimes.

[she gives another laugh, then finishes off her coffee]

Starting fires, hm?

[the cup is paper, easily crushed when she closes her fist around it. She grins at Kano as the cup bursts into a small, but very visible fire, slowly disintegrating the cup. It doesn't leave her hand, it doesn't even burn her, but in a matter of moments, the cup is gone]

Lively and more entertaining, one would say, yes?

[Now that's impressive. He's seen magic before--Flora had shown him, after all--but it's always a kick to see it again. His eyes light up with interest.]

Maybe you should greet people with a show, instead! Some kinda magical act is bound to attract more attention than standing around~

I do not think my magic is meant for that. Parlour tricks and the like should be left to magicians, yes?

I guess so. Hey, hey, does that tire you out any?

A small spell like that? Not at all.

Ehh, how cool! So you can do more than that? What's the biggest spell you can do? Ah, no, wait, wait, sorry! How does it work for you? Like, how do you cast them? Do you just think and does it--poof! [waves his hands for effect!]--appear like that?!

[she blinks at all the questions, then laughs, amused]

For some of my spells, I need to speak the spell's incantation first before I can cast it. For others, I just have to think about it and, ah, "poof".

I get it! Those spells that need incantations are the more powerful ones, I'm willing to bet.

You are correct.

So... [It's said expectantly. Lecture him on magic here Tempest.] ... you got any ones you can show off?

[I'm sorry were you expecting someone responsible]

I suppose that would depend on what you would like to see, yes?

[!!]

Well, it can't be something too flashy... can you do something with all this water? [Since it's raining super hard.]

Hmm.

[she gestures for him to come closer, then murmurs something under her breath.

A faint shimmer appears around and above them, blocking the rain. It hits the shield and slides down the sides, making for an interesting affect]

Such as that?

[It's a graceful sight to see. He looks up, at the rain sliding over an invisible shield, and shuts his own umbrella.]

Wow! This beats an umbrella any day.

[she can't help but grin]
