open log » ❝ mission oo1 briefing ❞

Date & Time: 04.04.3312
Location: Training Gymnasium in the Initiative Hold.
Characters: Everyone.
Summary: Everyone is summoned to a briefing and training, pre-mission for the very first mission.
Warnings: None.

There would come a demanding ping on every netbook at once. An urgent call to arms, a request for each and every transport to return to the Initiative Hold immediately. If ignored, the ping would continue until it reached its full volume -- overtaking the senses only until its owner complied, deafening in its insistence. At the Hold, there were several more Initiative attendees to rush each and every transport into a large training gymnasium previously unseen by all residents of the island of Exsilium. The auditorium was massive -- its walls whitewashed, its ceiling patterned with dim, purple ambient lighting.

There was a stage set up near the very back of the large room. A man, stern and young-looking, stood in the center of the stage and held a microphone in front of his pursed lips. Behind the stage was a set of time travel plates more populated than even the arrival room -- there had to be at least forty-five plates, all attended by a member of the Initiative, who stood beside the plate in wait and with a distant expression. Only once all of the transports were successfully congregated into their auditorium, did the astringent, black-haired man begin to speak. "This is a briefing," he began, his voice equally authoritative and matching the expression of great urgency on his angular features. "Tomorrow, we begin our very first mission. A mission into the past.

You will be sent to the year 115 CE, in the midst of a turmoil between the Romans and an Assyrian village. It is in both ours and imperatively your own best interest to help defend this village, and to send the Romans retreating to their own homes. You absolutely must comply with this mission. Not only for yourselves, but for your families at home in their own worlds. For all of us.

You will have twenty-four hours from this time to utilise this gymnasium. You will find an array of weaponry at your disposal, and will have access to your own chosen weapon. Use them. Train fiercely, as you have no choice in this initial mission to pick a different path. You all must fight. After your twenty-four hours of practise, you will be given your cloaking devices -- they will make you untraceable to the native people to the time in which you find yourself. Do not, under any circumstances, remove your cloaking device. It will not only be detrimental to you, but to your friends and your colleagues here, as well as your friends and family in their home worlds.

You will be summoned back from whatever your whereabouts at the success of your mission. Should you die during your mission, you will be summoned immediately and brought into the Initiative Infirmary and you will be healed. Do not die. Do not turn your back on your colleagues and your friends. Remain vigilant. The imperative nature of the success of your mission will be made clear upon your return to this world. There is nothing more that we can give than our word.

Finally, I will be coming with you. I will be your mentor and your guide during our mission and I will do my utmost to keep you safe, prepared, trained and informed. Slowly, our world here in Exsilium will become less and less enshrouded in mystery. Slowly, we are able to reveal our true selves, and with it we hope we will gain a much-needed trust. We do not withhold information easily, and it comes to us at a great cost. Thank you, everyone, and let your sessions begin!

Quiet attracts quiet. With Jericho being hardly the weapons expert some of the people at work were, it was best to move out of the way of most. The spectacle was sure something else, albeit a bit less spectacular than that big brouhaha against the Brotherhood had been. But then, that was something he'd been a part of. This was...well, he still wasn't sure.

Regardless of what he thought about all that time-travel nonsense, it was a great relief to find familiarity in that big room. He stopped a good few paces short of a conversation's distance – she was concentrating, he wasn't going to disturb her – and slid down to sit. It was a fair vantage point of everything else, too, so it he wasn't lacking in things to observe. Still, he glanced to his left curiously; he'd not known Raven very long, least of all at rest. Or...concentrated rest, as it were. What was she saying...?

"Azarath Metrion Zinthos... Azarath Metrion Zinthos..."

She repeated those three words again and again like a litanie. Though for anyone but Raven, they probably made little sense.

She kept meditating for a few more minutes until his presence and his gaze on her became too distracting. Then she lifted herself down onto the ground and looked at him.

"Hey. Have you been here for long?"

same to you :]

The steady repetition was a little hypnotic for him, too, and only gave him cause to startle when it suddenly stopped and she addressed him. He blinked a few times, snapping back into focus, sitting up extra-straight while leaning away. Oops!

Well...well, with someone as trained for placidity as Raven, it was tricky to gauge moods off-the-bat; he'd have to learn her habits and subtleties for that to really work. He could only hope he hadn't made himself a nuisance, given how focused she'd been.

He shook his head, smile slightly crooked and sheepish, waving his hand in a dismissing manner to emphasize. No, no...No intrusion meant.

Raven could sense his nervousness. So she just picked her communicator and typed something for him to see.

It's fine. You didn't bother me.

She wasn't mad at him in the least. Why would she be? He'd been discreet and let her go through with her meditation session.

Have you been able to train a bit? Or to meet interesting people?

Raven wasn't afraid of being near him, though she might have been uneasy had she known he was able to go inside of her mind and read her memories. But truth be told didn't know much about him. She had never even fought with him. All she knew is that he was a honorary Titan and that she'd learnt from Red X and the other Titans.

Oh! The netbooks. Hardly novel, but Raven was the first to go ahead and bring on into a face-to-face conversation like that. It was...very considerate of her, actually. Despite what little he'd known of her before, he liked her well enough by the company she kept. An encounter like this only made a better impression all around.

His mouth quirked a little as he scooted over to give her less reason to keep turning the screen so much after typing. After giving the questions a glancing over, he looked up, nodding, half-squinting as he held up his hand and made a pinching gesture. Only a little.

She nodded at his answer and shifted closer to him too.

I think I might be from your past. So I'm afraid I don't really know you very well. Not yet at least.

Better tell him about this now before he referred to anything she wouldn't remember about.

Oh...

That's right, the notion of time was all screwy, wasn't it? So it wouldn't be too unreasonable to believe there was missing time between them. A disappointing notion, certainly, but more was his relief of still being accepted.

He thought about that for a moment, mouth puckering and quirking to one side before looking up from the computer to her, gesturing with a hand. He wanted to reply with text, but it'd be rude to simply reach over and do so without at least asking first.

Well he could have used his own communication device to answer. But Raven had noticed the way he had moved closer to her when she'd started typing. And she could sense his need to feel accepted. Sharing her phone with him was a good way to show him she did trust him. So she nodded and placed the device just a bit closer to him.

I've only been a Titan for a few days.

She didn't miss much in that respect, at least. He half-squinted, fingers hovering over keys for a moment before adding to his response.

I don't really know you well either yet. But I hope to.

It was a little embarrassing to write right then and there; he withdrew a little, scratching at the back of his neck and looking sheepish.
feel_nevermore: (Well at least)

Raven smiled at this, a barely there smile, and she moved a bit closer to him in order to time her own answer.

There's no reason why we couldn't try to make the most of the time we have here. And I look forward to knowing you too, Jericho.
