Summary: Music and a meeting of undetermined nature. Following from here.

[ It had been a spur of the moment thing, really. She'd found the flyer among her things, brought back late one night undoubtedly, and then she'd texted Kate out of curiosity over whether she'd accept and interest. Kate was fascinating, and she wanted to see her outside of the formality of the party or the atmosphere of the training room.

So now here she was, black jeans and a grey t-shirt (and it was only after she'd left that she'd remembered their conversation on clothes and pulled a face at her own monochromatic approach), hair pulled back into a ponytail as she takes a seat at the bar and waits. She's a few minutes early. Time enough to order a glass of something to turn around and around on the bar in front of her. ]

[ Kate never enters a bar, no matter how famous or infamous, without stylish or expensive clothing. In Exsilium, there aren't any clothing brands that particularly stand out nor can she afford anything that may anyway.

Good make-up is just as tricky to find, but she's managed to find her signature shades and with that, it's not too long before she's entered the bar. She likes Roslyn, a little more than she initially thought, and it's been so long since she's had any sort of attraction to a woman like her. It's been so lonely here and back home.

And Valentine's is approaching fast.

She shows up right on time and smoothly slides into a seat beside Roslyn. ]

[ Ros turns and looks at her with a smile, pleased, and raises a hand to wave the bartender over so she can order a drink for Kate as well. ]

I wasn't sure what you liked.

[ She's trying very hard to not be obvious about looking at Kate, but she has yet to see her looking anything but beautiful and it continues to impress her. ] I'm glad you could make it.

[gevurah]

I'll have whatever it is you're having. [ A well-timed pause. ] As long as it isn't wine.

[boughtabookstore]

[ a soft chuckle, and she lifts her hand for the bartender ]

Scotch, actually. I'm not much of a wine person. How are you tonight?

[gevurah]

That's fine. I've seen people drink wine at these places and have to wonder who actually does that? [ Red wine especially. That's a bitch to get out of clothes. ]

Pretty good so far. How about you?

[boughtabookstore]

It seems to defeat the purpose of alcohol. [ Ordering Kate a scotch quickly. ]

Quite well. It's good to have company, and something to do with the evening.

[gevurah]

You don't bring company often? [ She asks with an air of "I don't believe you" in her tone. Roslyn is too attractive to spend her time in bars alone. ]

I have a few regular drinking companions, but it's generally a matter of stumbling upon them already here. [ Shrug. ]

Mostly I go by myself.

[gevurah]

Sounds lonely.

[ Not that Kate has room to talk... ]

I'm quite used to it.

[ A slight smile. ] And I'm not alone tonight.

[gevurah]

I feel honored, madame.

[boughtabookstore]

[ ha ]

The honor's all mine.

So you like music, then?

[gevurah]

Anything with a good beat I can dance to.

Never was big on country, though. [ Pop-country? Eh... ] You?

I like classical music for work. Other than that, it's mostly whether I can dance to it or not. Preferably with a lot of life to it.

[gevurah]

How often did you get a chance to wind down when you were with the FBI?

[boughtabookstore]

Here and there. After a case sometimes we'd go out. It wasn't too frequent, but it happened.

[gevurah]

[ She leans in close enough to get into some of Ros' personal space, but also far enough that she's teasing her, too. ]

Do I get to ask what sort of cases you worked on?

[boughtabookstore]

[ She leans back just enough to make it clear Kate's movement isn't unwelcome at all. ]

Mostly ones involving supernatural creatures. That was our task force.

[gevurah]

[ She arches an eyebrow. ]

Are we talking werewolves and ghosts?

[boughtabookstore]

[ A slight smile. ]

Precisely. Apparently they're not a consistent presence across worlds.

[gevurah]

It's surprising to hear the government acknowledges that. How big of a problem is it?

[boughtabookstore]

Not enough of one that it can't remain secret, but enough of one that we're rather needed. Still, we manage well enough.

[gevurah]

I hope there's a lot of benefits and bonuses to the job. [ Hunting down the supernatural cannot be easy. ]

[boughtabookstore]

We get a very good health care plan. And a fantastic headquarters.

Did you ever consider law enforcement?

[gevurah]

[ A wry smile.

She's not ashamed to admit she pursued a military career. There is no shame in what she did. It just opens up the possibility of more questions. ]

I wanted to be a soldier.

[boughtabookstore]

[ Interested, and a little impressed. ]

And did you?

[gevurah]

[ In her own way. Her gaze flicks to the surface of the bar, staring into a void of far off memories. ]

In the end, I couldn't tell them what they wanted to hear from me.

[boughtabookstore]

[ She nods a little and raises her drink. ]

Not everyone can.

[gevurah]

[ Kate's eyes drift to where her graduation ring once was. Ring weekend had been exciting in its own ways. She had been away from home, but she had Sophie.

It all seemed so long ago. ]

I preserved my integrity and that's what counts.

[boughtabookstore]

[ Integrity. It's a strange word, in some ways. Tastes odd in Roslyn's mouth when she pushes it around silently. But she thinks there's a guess she could make, and won't. ]

In the end - I imagine so, yes. [ How does one turn a conversation light again? She is kind of at a loss. ]

[gevurah]

[ She merely smirks. ]

Enough depressing chat. [ Although, it's not that depressing, but it does put a damper on the mood. ]

You got any plans for Valentine's?

[boughtabookstore]

[ Oh good, Kate's actually good at this sort of thing. An interested smile at the edge of her mouth. ]

I don't, as it happens. Why? Do you?

[gevurah]

No, but I could always change that.

[ Hint: we could change that. ]

[ Generally she's not that good at hints. In fact, she's not that good at them right now, but she wants it to mean that so she's going to choose to believe she's getting it right. ]

If you wouldn't mind the company, perhaps we could get dinner.

[gevurah]

I wonder if they've got any fancy sushi restaurants here. [ She really misses sushi and other seafood. ]

But I'd love to.

[boughtabookstore]

It's not extremely fancy, but there is a good sushi restaurant. [ She is actually just so pleased with herself and having been here long enough to know the restaurants pretty well. ]

I'd love to take you there.

[gevurah]

That's probably one of the best news I've heard here so far. [ She's mostly joking, but her favourite food is sushi and it's been months since she's sunk her teeth into it. ] They don't exactly have tourist pamphlets on where to find the hottest spots.

Then it's a date. [ Casual enough, and sort of a gauge as to how Kate will take that phrasing. ] You're right, they really don't. I only know where things are because over the past year I've had a great deal of free time on my hands.

[gevurah]

How do you pass the time here when you do?

[boughtabookstore]

Initially I explored and gathered what data I could. These days, I mostly just relax.

[gevurah]

Anything interesting you've learned here?

[boughtabookstore]

I know where all the good bars and the interesting ruins are, and I suppose the restaurants too. [ Because she is not getting into any of the actually serious things that have been learned over time. ] Mostly between missions it's uninteresting.

[gevurah]

Have you been to the outlands yet?

[boughtabookstore]

I have. A few times on my own, and once with an acquaintance on a mission. It's an interesting place, but inhospitable.
