open log » ❝ mission oo1 debriefing ❞
Date & Time: 04.17.3312
Location: The Initiative Hold training gymnasium.
Characters: Everyone.
Summary: Taking place during the aftermath and after; Major-General Silas Sterngate gives a debriefing of the success of the mission and the changes that have taken place.
Warnings: None.
[ Taking place during and after this Aftermath post right here. Feel free to tag in there as well as tag in here! As always, mission tags are still up for tagging until the end o' time! ]
Once everyone is gathered into the Initiative gymnasium, it takes only a few minutes before Major-General Silas Sterngate is ascending the stairs to the small stage. He strides up to the microphone and taps it only once before he begins to speak. "I see that everyone has made it back alive. Safe. I am glad for that," he begins. The Major-General takes a moment to scan the large room, overwhelmed with bodies -- ragged, worn, exhausted. He smiles then, and shares a curt nod. "It goes without saying that our mission was a great success. A great one. The Masked have become noticeably weaker. Some of their technology -- it's missing, as though it were never there before. The value of the United Earth's dollar has shifted, dropped. It is likely that they will not notice these changes. No, but we will."
Raising his arms up with great pleasure, the Major-General is grinning. He's scanning the room and he's meeting the eyes of everyone willing to meet his own. "It is all thanks to you. To your efforts. We have dealt a blow to the United Earth, and we can see it. Not only that, but we've brought life back into this world where there once was none. There are vines -- there are flowers, foliage that blooms within the Cities of Exsilium that was not there before. This mission was truly one of great promise, and with it came great reward.
Thank you. Thank you for your involvement, for your work on this mission. There are many more ahead of us. They will become both easier, and more difficult. Your continued cooperation will be... well-rewarded. Both with information and with gain."
There's a loud sound as the doors hoist open to the training gymnasium. The Initiative attendants are available at each of them, though only for the willing; the wounded. Major-General Silas Sterngate's voice lifts above the room one final time: "You are free to return to your homes. Be safe, and may the fruits of your labour be truly evident and in your favour. Thank you."

[ he chuckles quietly. funny name. he hopes he doesn't meet someone named Destiny. ]
Well... I didn't know that there were other people besides me and Sora that could do it, either. [ well, him, Sora, and Organization XIII, anyway. ]
I guess it's a well-kept secret.
no subject
I think it's a well-kept secret for certain worlds. According to the laws, the underdeveloped planets aren't supposed to be aware since their technology is just lacking.
[ Fayt pauses in his little speech though, before a sheepish smile shows on his face. ]
Well, that's before things went a little crazy. In my time, at least.
no subject
[ he echoes those words carefully. ]
What happened?
no subject
Anyone from his world would probably understand those two little words, that things started to happen because of his existence and the power he possesses. He didn't know if things would continue after fighting with Luther, waking up here instead of wherever else he's supposed to. But maybe that's a good thing considering there'd been a chance that the universe had been erased... with everyone else he knows in it.
But instead, he takes a second to choose his words carefully, not yet ready to reveal just what kind of person he is. ]
People will do anything for power. Especially if it's a power that could help them control the entire universe.
no subject
that, of course, doesn't mean he doesn't relate to what Fayt actually says. his face falls slightly and he sighs, closing his eyes. ]
... yeah. You're right.
no subject
He can't even remember the last time he referred to himself as a college kid majoring in symbological genetics, just like his parents did. ]
But you know. [ pause as he turns his gaze forward again, glancing at the people still about. ]
It's not the power that's bad- it's what you want to do with it that changes what it can mean for people. That's something I had to learn.
no subject
it reminds him of confronting Xemnas, of the King's words. no one truly hated the darkness, they feared the people who lurked in it, who fed off of its power, bloodthirsty and angry. the power itself wasn't at fault; it was the people who had that power that could make an impact on how people viewed the power in question. ]
Sounds like you have a lot of experience.
no subject
It's a big expectation to fill, but it's one worth living up to if the universe gets to keep on living the life it's always known. ]
I guess I do. You only have so many options to choose from while trying to keep yourself alive.
[ Though he'd been more than willing to give himself up to the enemy if it meant the others and his father's safety. ]
But it kind of sounds like you do, too.
no subject
Just a year or two.
It sounds like you've been fighting for a lifetime.
[ he wasn't sure what Xehanort's Heartless did to his body even counted as "staying alive". ]
no subject
[ It certainly does feel like a lifetime to him- from the moment that Hyda IV got attacked, to going into 4D Space and confronting the Creator so that the universe wouldn't become Erased, it feels like the battles have spanned over years and not just the months that he logically knows it to be. The tiredness and experience in his voice probably tells otherwise, though. That he's been through battles and wars far more than anyone else has. ]
But I don't think it's any longer than you. The days blurred too much for me to really remember.
no subject
[ he had no idea how much time he spent by Maleficent's side, with her group of cronies...
but he only knew it was a year because of Roxas, and because of Sora. ]
You just sound like you've been through a lot.
no subject
[ As much as he believes his words, there's also another part of him that can't rest until he knows for sure that things are okay. That all of the fighting hadn't been vain and that everyone's living their lives in peace. But he won't know unless he leaves this place, right?
And he won't be mentioning other things that need to be resolved, pushing them to the back of his head for when he actually has time to think about them and not fighting. ]
no subject
[ his question is asked a little more haltingly than the others-- and quietly, with a light tilt of Riku's head as he examines Fayt's reaction. ]
Your universe...
no subject
There's never a guarantee that something will be absolutely safe, no matter what you do to protect it. [ pause, knowing that wars will always happen, no matter the peace treaties that could be signed. ]
But I know it's safe from the fate that was going to happen to it.
[ Glancing at Riku, Fayt smiles a little. ] Because I believe it is. That it continues to exist.
no subject
Why did that sound like someone I know...
Sounds like the universe is in good hands once this war's finished.
no subject
But just chuckles softly at Riku's words. ]
I think your universe will be in good hands, too. Once everything here is finished.
no subject
It's already in good hands. I'm not the one that saves them.
[ what's a good name for what he does? a slight smirk comes to his face. ]
I guess you could call me the schedule-keeper. I don't really do anything, but the person that does is really bad at being on time...
no subject
Is that right. Then the universe is definitely in good hands.
[ How many times did he need a talking to, about how he shouldn't be so quick to do the most irrational decisions, thus putting himself into danger. Too many times, probably, but he'd like to think he got better.
He smiles at Riku. ]
It's thanks to you that things are good and going, isn't it? Otherwise, where would it be if not for you.
no subject
He almost speaks with those words, but he stops himself, rubbing the back of his neck. Sora would probably nudge him to just say thanks. so he nods slightly. ]
Yeah... sure.
no subject
[ Fayt should take his own advice some times, since he doesn't take any credit for all the accomplishments that have been done to help with the war efforts back home. He still faults himself for all the losses, for all the people who gave their lives, for those he couldn't save. As much as anyone would say it's not his fault, he still believes it is. ]
Everyone plays a part in their world. What you did might not have been known or seen, but it's still part of the bigger picture.
[ He thinks of all those unknown faces who worked so hard to make sure things were ready, who wanted to end the war and did all they could for the country they fought for. ]
Those unmentioned actions are the ones that should be praised. Because of all the hard work and effort put into them.
no subject
[ You don't understand what I've done. I shouldn't be praised.
he doesn't stay anything, just straightens and gives the other a guilty look. after a moment, he sighs, and looks back away. ]
Thanks.
Maybe I deserve some credit, but some of it should get taken away for other things I've done.
no subject
Another soft hum before he speaks. ]
I know someone who was like that, but he's a lot more.. vocal when he tries to hide his faults. [ a soft chuckle ] Despite the bad things he did, he continued to travel with me and helped where he thought it was due. You know why?
[ Fayt looks back at Riku, his face soft with understanding. ]
It's because I forgave him for all the things he did. And in the end, I consider him a friend, albeit an odd one.
[ another smile ] I'm sure your friends will be the same, Riku.
no subject
[ Riku's voice carries some exasperation when he says it, far too unnerved to see someone like Sora right beside him, older. protectiveness flares up in his chest, and he knows he shouldn't be protective of someone who seems to be far more capable than he is, not just in age but technique. if he could save his universe, if he shows a magnitude of power...
he doesn't know... this seems so dangerous.
but, maybe he isn't telling Fayt to 'stop being so nice' at all. maybe this is half for Sora and Kairi, too. ]
My friends ... did forgive me. You're just like my best friend.
no subject
[ Hearing an echo of Albel's words just makes him smile a little fondly. Despite all the insults and mocking tone, he knows that it's just the way that Albel talks to him, to everyone really. However, he's aware that he's too nice some times, too giving when not wanting to receive anything in return. Because if he were honest, he doesn't think he deserves it. Being the root of all the attacks from the Vendeeni, there's no way he could accept anything when helping others out.
Giving what he can, it's all he can do. There isn't much more to him than that. ]
I guess we have more in common than just being able to go to different worlds.
no subject
[ ... though he wishes he didn't, because he feels like nothing more than a teenager now, next to Fayt.
he takes a good look at him and then places a hand over the bandage he has over his arm, protectively. ]
I guess we do.
