-- so he was this kind of person. He should be the one thanking this person for saving him, really.
Lifting his camera and half-kneeling so that the camera is pointed right up at the bowing dark-haired boy's face, Totsuka grins. ]
Well, alright! If you will tell me a little about yourself and show me around, I'll take it as repayment.
no subject
[ Ah, and then he opens his eyes and notices what the older man is doing; straighten up, boy, you're on camera. So he does.
Camera.
Something clicks in the back of his mind, but he ignores it for the moment in favor of fulfilling his savior's request. ] My name is Yatogami Kuroh, vassal of the previous Seventh King, Miwa Ichigen.
[ His standard self-introduction, finally put to use on someone who may even know what he's talking about. ]
no subject
Whoooaa, so Kuroh-kun is the former Colourless King's vassal? I see, I see! It's nice to formally meet you, Kuroh-kun.
[ Stretching his hand out for a handshake, if Kuroh wants.
Totsuka finds this an amusing coincidence -- he'd thought this person was special too and to think they actually were a King's clansman... He laughs a little, pulling the camera away from his eyes and to the side. ]
...Then, let me introduce myself to you too. I am the Third King's -- Suoh Mikoto's -- vassal, Totsuka Tatara.
no subject
But he keeps up the smile and the handshake...and then as Totsuka continues speaking, everything he experienced in the last few days before being brought here all comes rushing back. Third King. Red. Suoh Mikoto. Totsuka Tatara.
His gaze, now blank, drifts over to the camera. Lovely evening, isn't it?
He did recognize this man's voice, and not because they've met before. How many times had he and Shiro studied that recording looking for any hint they could find? Of course. Of course.
He lets his hand drop, and openly stares. He's heard of how death works here; but now the evidence, for the first time, is standing right before him. ]
Totsuka...Tatara? [ Some small part of him knows he's acting strangely. But there might be some chance that he misheard. ]

Most people in the know recognize his name if only because of his high rank within the Red clan; some take it further and attach 'weakest executive' onto the back, like it was some kind of running joke. He, who didn't actually have the ability to defend himself or the want to fight back, often found himself the target of those who had already lost to Homra.
But the Seven Kings and the seven clans are bound by laws and rules and he knows the person in front of him didn't seem the kind to forget those. Not only that, Yatogami Kuroh is also a person who has already saved his life once.
So he doesn't stop smiling, simply answers cheerfully, ]
Yep, that's right. Totsuka Tatara. You've heard of me, Kuroh-kun?
no subject
But the pit in his stomach grows now that he has put a face to the victim. The man whose life he had once saved nonetheless ended up... ] Murdered.
[ There, he said it. Much as it pains him to do it, Totsuka deserves to hear the truth. So he steels himself and looks into his eyes; hiding nothing. ] You were murdered. By the new Colorless King.
[ Who he should have stopped earlier. ]
no subject
It's how he dies that gets him.
--Murdered. Murdered by another King. The circumstances the other doesn't mention but Totsuka has his own guesses. It doesn't slip his notice either how Kuroh seperates this Colourless King with the word 'new'. ]
no subject
I see, so that's what happened...
[ He laughs softly, a short haha, before he continues calmly, ] I don't actually remember it, so thank you for telling me! [ A beat. ] Do you know if Homra is doing well?
no subject
But no, something about this man's acceptance just makes him feel more sad about the whole thing.
"Do you know if Homra is doing well?" He would want to know that, wouldn't he? He ponders, trying to choose his next words carefully. ] All I know is that they're searching for your killer.
[ ... Nope, he's not going to stop there. Withholding information is the same as lying. ] I've been keeping the suspect away from them. [ He can't help but match Totsuka's wry grin. The only capacity in which he interacts with other clans is when he's interfering with their plans, after all. ]
The situation is...complicated. [ First, because he was supposed to be the one to slay the new evil king. Later, because...WELL, because Shiro happened. ]

Ignoring the intruding thoughts of what Homra would be like after his death, Totsuka slants his head thoughtfully at Kuroh's words and considers both what he knows and what the other has now confessed to: keeping the suspect away from Homra. The thought amuses him -- that the man before him is one who dares to stand up the Homra -- even though a part of him knows he really shouldn't be.
It can't be helped; there's just something very admirable about the person in front of him. ]
You don't think their suspect is the criminal, then?
no subject
He's air-headed, annoying, and genuinely incompetent. [ This all said with a smile, nonetheless. Kuroh shakes his head. ] I don't think he is a murderer, no.
[ Of course ultimately what he thinks may not matter. But there it is. ]
no subject
But the person Homra thought to be his murderer, huh. The description already makes him curious. The fact that Kuroh seems particularly taken with them makes him even more interested. ]
Is he here? [ The way Kuroh talks, it feels like they are. ] I'd like to meet him, if that's possible.
no subject
But their meeting was probably an inevitability in this sort of place anyway. ] I'm sure he'd like to meet you, too. To insist on his innocence, if nothing else.
no subject
What's his name?
no subject
[ But then he trails off and shifts his gaze far behind Totsuka, because he feels...Something. Something foreboding, and vaguely familiar. And is it just his imagination, or is the air way over there beginning to distort...
Where's Shiro. ]
no subject
-- King was here, his King was here. It had to be his King. The small amount of joy he feels at that knowledge is immediately lost to the questions racing through his head.
He starts running in that direction.
Totsuka turns back, smiling apologetically. ] Sorry, Kuroh-kun! I have to go to meet with my King. Let's hang out together later, alright?
no subject
His hand moves to Kotowari in some subconscious grasp for reassurance. When the sword begins forming, he feels his stomach drop. There's only one reason for something like that to happen.
Totsuka is forgotten. As before, he's not even listening, and he springs forward, heading for the sword's location as fast as he can go. There will be plenty of time to feel apologetic later, assuming that time comes. ]
