[CLOSED] Surprise, sorta!plot twist.
Date & Time: Monday, March 4th.
Location: AWAY FROM EVERYTHING. Exsilium boonies, if there is such a thing.
Characters: Fiona, Blaine, Elissa, Edgeworth, Franziska.
Summary: So Fiona's been mildly withholding information concerning those lovely Defense Meetings, oops. Best tell the new leaders.
Warnings: Language and likely some hefty text walls. Beware~
An hour's time seemed more than generous of a warning to send out. She had kept the message to each of them short and simple; a location, the time, and the urgency and expected privacy she hoped to keep for this meeting. Now she simply had to wait for them and assume that the lack of warning would leave any eavesdroppers unprepared. Despite having looked into the outside location several times and again at this time, she still found herself looking over her shoulder. Old habits, maybe. The smallest reassurance to herself being to 'Let them watch, there's nothing they can do.
When they began to arrive she stayed silent, urging them to wait and hold questions until all four had come. Once they had, the silence lingered a moment longer. Leading anything was never something she was accustomed to, it was easy to forget that. But then, that's what these people were here for, wasn't it?
"First off, congratulations are in order as well as an apology for the delay in contact and the abruptness of it tonight, but I found myself preoccupied and now seemed the best time." Her annoyed tone speaking for itself that it was something much against her will and even more so against her plans. Annoyance passed, she managed a small smile. "I believe all of you deserve your positions from what I know of you, and I'm glad others agree." And the smile faded just as quickly as it came.
"But I'm afraid this is just the beginning of our efforts." With a short breath of hesitation she gripped her staff tightly. "Don't be mistaken," she warned as she held up a finger, "what we have before us are the potential beginnings of an army. Our purpose is to defend ourselves and that is exactly the intention I hope is kept. But that also means preparing ourselves and those we plan to defend; against any potential threat or outcome." Allowing only a moment for such words to sink in, she continued.
"Our hosts have been hospitable but I believe some of us have been here long enough to realize that is not always the case. In the past, all it has taken was for one of their men to be against us transports to cause an array of problems and ailments for us." Certainly enough people who had not been present at those times had come to ask her questions about it. Such was a convenient thing to forget for some of those who had been here too long, but she knew a bit better, and giving a history lesson every now and then served as a fair reminder.
"We are the Initiative's army. And when we have defeated this UE and the Initiative becomes or instates a new leading power, which is undoubtedly their goal, do any of you truly believe they will give their powerful army up without anyone in disagreement? Especially with the risk of more enemies as strong, if not stronger than the UE possibly waiting for such an opportunity."
Now, gripping her staff with both hands, she made sure to keep her stubborn stance. These efforts had come a little too far for the anticipated leaders to hold doubt, although the honesty now may have been a little too condemning. "I am not saying, however, that such cautions or actions to defend ourselves and secure our freedom are necessary when this war is over," she gave a small pause as she reluctantly kept back a few choice words. "But we must be prepared and we cannot do so unless we are unified in this and take necessary precautions. Threats will not always look at you directly, and sometimes they are completely out of view and deceivingly kind. All I am saying is that we would be fools to be so trusting of those who have dragged us here, intentional or otherwise."
And that was that. It was a relief to actually share her intended plans, but she could easily assume the relief was not unanimous. "I care not for how all of you lead us so long as it is done as one and what I have said is kept in mind. If all of you truly hope to defend every one of us here, against any enemy we may face, then my suspicions should not come as a surprise. I can only hope you four will do what you believe to be best. That's all I have to say."

QUESTIONS? But I think we mean ARGUMENTS?
yep, sorry, quick tag for now
She doesn't turn to Blaine first but to Edgeworth, and when she speaks, it's enough that Fiona can hear as well.]
Well. Your thoughts?
<3
Upon realizing that Ms. Cousland is waiting for his opinion, he clears his throat awkwardly and answers, trying not to keep his focus on the woman he's responding to rather than the one who had organized this meeting, who he is still well aware is still in earshot. ]
I expected this. That being said, ultimately nothing about what I said last time has changed. I ... wish to work in the interests of the community, but certainly do not have any intention of creating an army.

[He might not want an army but Elissa is prepared to build one.]
Our first priority is to fight the United Earth and to force them back. This will happen regardless of what we want. Our missions, so far, have included fighting and thievery, even underhanded tactics. We need to build up the defense to ensure we are all kept safe, especially those who are doctors and healers, children, and those who cannot fight.
[If that's creating an army, then that's fine.]
If the Initiative then proves to be unreliable, then we will strike back at them. But that does not need to be our objective now. We have more than enough on our plate.

So you've been planning it this way from the beginning. Can't say I disapprove. Anything else you're hiding up your sleeve?
no subject
I wasn't hiding anything. This is a fact of our situation and to ignore it at this point would be idiotic.

Do you plan to only be support from now on?

Wow Blaine that icon. I can see up your nose, just fyi.
I assume any ideas to be simple, it's carrying them through that is a challenge, don't you think? [She'll tap her fingers against her arm for a moment before continuing] Encourage others to join; offer training to those who need it, and offer to be an ally to those who don't need the training. However skilled some may be on their own in combat, it's clear we are dealing with forces here far from any of our control. It's something worth emphasizing to those too stubborn to believe otherwise.
She's so short she can *always* see up his nose. o 3o
Yes. That's why getting people to work together and not be insufferable assholes is going to be the hardest part. Not much of a team mentality here. I don't think group survival instincts were one of the traits that got people pulled here.
Ewe. Sneezing is illegal now.
Likely not. And there are several instances of those who simply have no interest in following orders from others as well. Not to mention those who don't believe there's any danger involved with this war. Even with past incidents that speak otherwise, not everyone is able to see the danger involved here.
You'll just have to get out of the way. /doesn't cover mouth
Oops I think your nose hairs are on fire.
Wow rude. He was covering his nose at least.
How do you cover your nose but not your mouth..?
Stick two fingers up your nostrils?
I'd advise against sticking your fingers into a fire, Blaine.
She couldn't set his nose on fire if they were in there the whole time :|
