Summary: Nine teenagers with varying degrees of trauma decide to go camping.
(Actually, eight teenagers get bullied into going camping by Ellie.)
Warnings: Not sure yet; I'll add them as they come up. At the very least some language, and fallout from PTSD.



Ellie had found the place once before on her wandering into the Outlands; a dilapidated old barn, with stone walls and a roof that was, by some miracle, completely intact despite all the evidence of nature clambering up its walls and trying to reclaim it for the land. There's a hill leading down to it, and if you follow that hill down, you meet the woods, a big lake. It's beautiful, she thinks. Nowhere near so wild as Hell, but that was better.

Finding that place had been how it started, before thinking about getting some of the others together had kicked in. A way to unwind, after the body swap. At the very least a chance to get some decent people all together in the same place (and maybe a way to apologise to Asami for pointing a gun at her that one time).


OOC: Party style, adventures everyone.Just go wild, if you want it to be set at a particular time, maybe specify in the subject line? I'm doing some starters just... in case that helps but do whatever you like tbh. YEAH. There's also the ooc plotting post so chuck folks in there and scheme and let the madness and CR unfold.

[Cedric rolls down to join her when he finishes counting, flopping right beside her. He enjoys it.]

If you run up the hill enough times and warm up, the cold's refreshing. Nine seconds, by the way, not bad!

[He offers his hand for a shake.]

[chittybang]

Alright, that's acceptable!

[She shakes his hand firmly, then after a pause she applies stripes of mud across her cheekbones. Her expression playfully darkens.]

Wanna make it eight?

[theboywhodied]

You're on.

[Cedric rolls up his sleeves and starts sprinting back up the hill, conjuring a sled of his own. He's ready to race, and once he's at the top he's crouching to prepare for a flying leap.]

[Asami quickly follows him back up, the better part of her still wanting to be careful with the mud even if it's way too late. At least she's a little more haphazard than last time.

After a look to see the way he's doing it, Asami mimics him and crouches.]

On three, are you ready?

One, two...

[THREE IS UNDERSTOOD, OFF SHE GOES]

GO!

[Ha. He's a half-step behind her, but his practiced dive puts him neck and neck with her. It's close to a draw as they tumble out at the bottom, coated in a thin layer of fresh mud. He laughs and coughs some up.]

What do you think? Is that a draw?

[chittybang]

[There's no salvaging this outfit anymore, that's for sure. Asami slowly sits up, body stiff from the landing, and glances at Cedric.]

Yeah, I think so. [She's breathless, but she heaves herself up once again. And she gives her hair a little whip, just to get some of the mud out of it. Pieces fling toward Cedric.] Alright, one more time, and then the lake?

[She won't say it out loud, but she doesn't like draws in regards to races.]

Absolutely. And this time I'm really fighting for it!

[He yells that last sentence as he races up the hill. When he reaches the top, he jogs back, looks at her---and goes for a running start at the count of two. He's really racing this time.]

[She can tell he's going at it with a little more gusto, and it's not just because he tells her so. Asami gives the slide her all, just a few seconds of forgetting about how much mud is flinging in her face and splattering her body. Her field of vision is narrow, only catching a glimpse of Cedric when his sled does stop a split-second before hers.

After tumbling off her sled and onto her back, she heaves a sigh.]

Darn!

[It's good-natured, but still. All this mud just to lose a race.

At least this isn't a motor race, otherwise this might actually hurt her pride. She sits up and holds out her hand, slick with mud, for a handshake.]

[theboywhodied]

[Success! Cedric flashes his victory sign in the air for a brief moment, then sits up and shakes her hand. He's feeling just fine, but that wash sounds good.]

You were really into athletics at home, weren't you?

[chittybang]

[Asami doesn't let go of his hand as she begins to climb onto her feet, and she pulls to help him to a stand.]

Sort of. I used to be a test driver for new vehicle models, and that gave way into race car driving. What about you?

[theboywhodied]

[Cedric appreciates the lift. He makes a futile attempt at wiping some of the mud off, then laughs.]

You're right. Lake. And...wow, that's really something. I've heard a lot about motorcycles, but I've never seen one up close. I race too---but it's on brooms.

[chittybang]

[Asami is ready as ever to talk up the motorcycle on the way to the lake, and she's been doing that a lot, but she didn't quite catch Cedric's message. Or, she thinks she didn't.]

I'm sorry? I heard "brooms."

[theboywhodied]

Yes, that's right.

[Cedric looks as cheerful as ever as he smiles.]

You've never seen one fly before, have you?

[chittybang]

No, I haven't! That's really random. Why a broom?

[It's random to the point of comical, and a bewildered smile takes place across her lips.]

In my world, witches and wizards hide their magic. We need something to fly on, and it has to be something that easily fits into a home without looking suspicious. We ended up choosing a broom, but the best racing brooms don't look much like brooms for sweeping these days.

[chittybang]

Oh. I guess that's not so random, after all.

It's too bad you guys have to hide yourselves, though. Why wouldn't non-witches and wizards want you guys around?

[It's along the same vein of trying to get rid of the benders in her world. Both benders and nonbenders bring something to the table, after all.]

[Cedric kicks a pebble along on his way, watching it bounce. This doesn't bother him as much as it did, but...]

Many were afraid of us or wanted to use us. They didn't know what our power could do, so they attacked. And if they could guess, they wanted to force us to solve all their problems. It was an ugly situation.

That's so awful... I guess I understand where you're coming from. We have benders in my world, and they have the power to manipulate earth, fire, air, or water. We've all actually been able to coexist, but just recently there was an uprising to eradicate them, or at least take their bending away. They were called the Equalists. It was such an ugly situation basically over one man's sob story.

But anyways, it caused rifts in a lot of places, so I'm sorry it's been like that for you guys.

That sounds too familiar.

[He nods solemnly.]

I was worried for a while, but people are used to magic here. I still intimidate some people, but it's not as bad as I expected it to be.

[chittybang]

I know, it's hard to believe there are so many things people are capable of. I almost feel abnormal here.

[Not that she resents her normalcy. She rather likes being able to hold her own around her friends the way she is.

At the lake, she dips her toe in the water to test its temperature. Chilly, but manageable.]

Hey, don't. You're an excellent mud-slider.

[Cedric tests the water with his fingertip and nods. He'll deal with it.]

It's not so bad getting off to a quick start in the water.

[He shakes his cloak distastefully, sheds it, then rolls up his sleeves. Laundry time!]

[chittybang]

[Asami grins at him before walking into the water, and the first thing she does is submerge herself to wet the gunk in her hair. She comes up with a shake of her hair, wiping her eyes of water.]

It's probably not all going to come off, is it?

[theboywhodied]

[He follows her with an enormous splash, laughing as he flings about. After about 30 seconds of warming up, he starts vigorously scrubbing his hair. It stands out in all directions.]

Probably not, but it was worth a shot.
