Summary: can we fix it? I hope so.

The exteriors of the synagogue aren’t too shabby surprisingly, but the main door needs a good push before it can be shouldered open properly and it creaks loudly as it swings on its hinges. Bits of the walls outside are chipped and discoloured, slowly but constantly being eroded each day in the never ending rainfall that blankets the city.

Inside the building is still as cold as it is outside; windows missing entire panes or broken bits still clinging to the frames, still sharp and dangerous enough to cut deep into one’s flesh if they’re not careful enough. Wherever the windows are, cold wind blows in, and the floor beneath the sills are damp and around the edges have some mold growing. There’s also pieces of glass laying on the floor.

There’s dust and broken bits of wood everywhere. Wooden beams that are supposed to support the building lay half rotting around the building. Some of them are in the way if people want to go further into the building, so they’ll need to be carried out outside by a few helping hands. The air in the building is stuffy and unpleasant, even with wind passing in every now and then.

Honestly, it may feel more depressing inside the worn down building than it does outside in the rain that never ceases.

You like jam?

[Clearly. But who doesn't?? He'll go fetch one from his bag, which is stashed in a nearby dry corner of the synagogue and stuffed entirely with food.]

[innominata]

I haven't had any in a long time.

[ She runs her finger in the jam to collect some before putting it in her mouth. She smiles. Realizing she's smiling, she tries to subtly pinch the skin on her wrist. Command your face. ]

[debtor]

[SMILES BACK even if she's trying not to. He knows your kind.]

Help yourself, then. [Pushes the bag towards her.] I've got a few jars of it at the flat.

[innominata]

Where did you find them?

[debtor]

There's shops that sell them around the city. I could give you directions to some, I think. [Potentially unreliable directions.] ...Does your mum shop for you?

[innominata]

[ Allen, what are you useful for. ]

No.

[debtor]

[Nothing at all.]

Oh. Ah, well... here: [INSERT CONFUSING DIRECTIONS for some grocery store that might be near a haberdasher- or possibly a bank? Anyway, it's probably left of that restaurant with the sign shaped like a pig. Is it a pig? Your left, if you're coming from the right direction...

Y'know.]

Is this a jape?

[debtor]

Wh- no...!

I... maybe I'd have to show you in person. I know where it is!

[innominata]

Do you really?

[debtor]

Yes! I've been there before!

[innominata]

Fine.

[debtor]

[Grabs a sandwich from his bag, it vanishes a few seconds later.]

So I can show you, whenever you'd like.

[innominata]

[ ...please don't eat her, allen. ]

Once we're finished here, we could.

[debtor]

[No promises.

He looks around the synagogue, and nods. There's still so much to do...]

What were you working on?

[innominata]

Cleaning glass.

[debtor]

You're being careful, right? [GLASS IS SHARP!]

I was moving beams, and there are still a few more. How about we work here... for another hour?

[wolfchild]

[ She shoots him an unimpressed look.

Yes. I'm not stupid.

[ A sigh, and she continues more calmly. ] An hour is fine. I can't stay here all day anyway.

[debtor]

[Raises a placatory hand.]

Sorry, sorry! I know you're not. [Aha (he still glances at her feet to make sure she's got proper shoes.)]

I'll be back in an hour, then. [With a quick nod, he heads back to the other side of the building, to collect some huge hunks of rotting wood.]

[ Allen, you are such a good bro. Except she's still offended.

An hour later, she's brushed off as much of the dust off her and Nymeria as possible. She waits for Allen, more to see if his timekeeping is any better than his sense of direction. ]

[debtor]

[I'ts nnnnot really. By the time an hour's up, he's outside, doing who-knows-what on the roof, and it might've slipped his mind that time was supposed to be a thing he was keeping track of.

But it's Tim who flies off to collect him. So he's only a little late when he comes back inside, trying to wipe the grime off his wet gloves by discretely smearing it on his trousers.]

Sorry for making you wait.

You don't have to apologize. I expected it.

[ Aren't you glad you're being held to such low standards? ]

[debtor]

Wh— have I made you wait before??

[HE TRIES SO HARD...

Also, collecting his bag before they go.]

[wolfchild]

No. But you seemed the type.

[ She smiles beatifically at him before walking out of the synagogue. ]

Lead the way.

[debtor]

[HDU] Oi! I'm not that sort. This was a one-time occurrence!

[No it wasn't. And he starts leading the way!! He at least seems to know which direction he's going in. Or he's making a point to seem like he does.]
