Date & Time: Some time during the day and backdated to about when Juvia arrives.
Location: Training area
Characters: Juvia and Kratos
Summary: Juvia is training with Kratos so he can teach her to master her weapon better.
Warnings: Juvia None.

[When Juvia first arrived in Exsilium she was worried for her and her guildmates (namely Gray), but the longer she stayed the more she felt grateful for all the kind people around. One was even willing to help her out and train her better into using her dagger. Krastos was his name, she thinks.

A day or so after her conversation with the man she walked over to the initial training arena, her dirk held close to her, looking around. He...was here right? He wasn't messing around with her, was he?

Hello?

[Not one to waste time waiting, Kratos had taken to practicing a little with his mana dagger. Though not suitable for actual combat, it should more than suffice for teaching purposes. Not to mention, the more it got used, the stronger it'll get and won't break as easily.

After doing so for a while and snapping the dagger an annoyingly high number of times, a break appeared in order. The man stilled in his movements, allowed the dagger to dissipate into thin air and casually glanced around. Oh huh, that was Juvia over there, wasn't it. Perfect timing. Kratos made his way towards her, a small nod of greeting getting sent her way once close enough.]

Juvia.

[Having the dagger out already is a good indicator of how willing she is to learn. The more someone displays a willingness to learn, the happier Kratos is to satisfy the desire to learn.]

Not at all.

[He's honestly glad to help. The more people who can fight during a war the better.]

Are you ready to begin?

[Such eagerness to learn really does show promise.]

Good.

[Unfortunately, fighting will not happen anytime soon. Not even working an footing is going to happen right now. Starting from the basics is key to acquiring a good, strong fighting style.]

We will start by working on your grip. A weak or improper grip can lead to either easily being disarmed or self injury.

[Not that hers is bad, but it's just not entirely proper.]

Shift your hand so it rests right below the hilt like so. Wrap your fingers around the handle so that the thumb is wrapped around the handle and in contact with the forefinger.

[Kratos demonstrates with his own dagger, holding it out for her to see.]

This is the basic hold for a dagger, commonly called the forward or hammer grip.

[Kratos watches her fumble with a critical eye. All the mistakes and flaws are easy enough to spot, but nothing gets said though as it feels unnecessary. Right now, the important thing is to get a grasp of her abilities (or there lack of) and how she is as a student. Critiquing can come after.]

Learning takes different amounts of time for different people. How long it takes matters little compared to the eventual outcome.

[Though praise does tend to help a bit. Giving praise when it's not deserved isn't about to happen, but she had done something worthy of it a moment ago.]

If it's any consolation, you almost had it that last time.

[Not quite and clearly with a few flaws, but still on the right track. Progress is progress not matter how small.]
