[All things considered, their lives here at Exsilium have been very peaceful. So maybe it was inevitable that something would come and ruin that peace. Kido herself can't be too worried yet until she finds out what she needs but she is definitely guarded.

...Guarded because of what Kano said but also from how worried Kano was about this. She hopes things won't be too troublesome. As long as Kano behaves it'll be fine. Probably.

She spots Jade finally and waves at him.]

Oi, Jade! We need to talk!

I see. [That fits well with the data about Kano's behaviour and Kido's apparent lack of awareness of its full extent, and it would account for the discrepancy. But he's still curious.] Your experiences with the subject, however, is identical?

I'd think so. [He's not going to elaborate anymore than that, sorry.]

[Kido frowns slightly, glancing at Kano out of the corner of her eye. But after a beat, she doesn't say whatever she thought at that moment, instead nodding.]

...It's probably close enough.

[clinical]

Hm. [And a kind of just. Emotionless shrugging off of the question. Issue with hypothesis resolved.] Well, doubtless a gang leader would look extensively into her member's opinions on matter if had any relevance to your operations as a gang, so I'm sure it doesn't matter if your ideas differ.

[Why did that bother her? He's right. So it's not a big deal but...she feels bad somehow anyway.]

...Why did you say it like that? I'm not going to pry into anyone's feelings. It's better if someone tells you that kind of thing. If Kano had something important to tell me, he'd tell me. It goes for any of them. I want them to be comfortable talking about whatever bothers them or what thoughts they have.

[clinical]

[He answers very calmly, but with the confidence of an experienced CO.] I accept your position as coming from a friend, but you are mistaken in your position as a leader. A leader is responsible for the mental health of those under her command. She must take every step to ensure that she is aware of anything that would endanger her people or their mission, even if that may extend beyond the ordinary social bounds of privacy. The consequences of any such lack of information fall at least in part on the leader's head.

[Kano gives a wry smile.]

Ah, that would be a concern, wouldn't it? But it's something she has under control! We all trust each other very much. If we did have any problems, we'd let her know right away~ That's how it's always been.

[Even if Kano says that, it isn't like she is completely oblivious. She worries sometimes. Especially since they've gotten here.

She looks at Kano. Despite speaking slowly, she's serious, not hesitant.]

[Kido falls silent, hands in her pockets. If she had some music playing, it would be easier to think, but she keeps quiet instead.]

How would you even know? If there's something wrong with someone but you can't tell... If you just ask them over and over what's wrong, it won't do anything. So how do you make sure?

[clinical]

[He watches the exchange silently. His attention returns to Kido.] Do you trust your instincts, Kido?

[So how can they take that answer? The fact that she sounds a little guilty should be a hint.

To put it simply, she trusts her instinct that she's missing something.]

Then don't hide away from the answers they're guiding you to.

[Kano listens to them carefully, still keeping his smile. There's another reason why he didn't like Jade at all. There was something about the man that let him see through Kano's masks like they were nothing, and it made him feel naked. Unsafe. As burdensome as his masks could be, they were his cover, his second skin. And he didn't like the bars of his cage rattled by this stranger.

He leans forward.]

Kido isn't the type to hide from answers. If she's given the chance to find it, ah, I'm sure she won't stop until she gets it! [He looks Jade in the eye.] If there's something off, she'll take care of it.

[The air certainly did just get heavier. It isn't her imagination. Did Kano and Jade have a talk when she wasn't looking? Geez.]

Well... thanks, Kano. [She gives him a small smile. He's defending her - she thinks? - so she does appreciate it.] But I should still consider things more. I probably don't put as much thought into situations as I should.

[He gets his hair ruffled.] It's my responsibility to take care of you guys. If someone like him can give advice from his reckless past, it's worth thinking it over.

[He laughs in response to her smile, straightening up.]

I see. Well, it's still good advice! [His expression becomes a little more mischievous.] Leader should follow her heart~ That's what it boils down to, right, right?

[clinical]

Exactly that, Kano. The way to lead a happy life is by following your heart. [♥]

[Considering last night, she isn't too big on that right now. She gets flustered for seemingly no reason and waves her hands.]
