(closed) the force is great
Date & Time: 10th April
Location: Casa de Batrek, NORAH cafe
Characters: Ellie and Steph Brown
controlledvariable (with guest appearance by Snow Villiers
stonewall)
Summary: WAFFFLLLEEESSS
Warnings: Just... Ellie...
( It's been busy, camping, training, invasions and everything. She almost forgot, really, about the whole cafe and waffles thing. At least that meant she couldn't accidentally let slip about the waffles, either.
Now, though, she was in a good mood, and sometimes you just gotta grab that and run with it; carpe diem and that, right? Although she was pretty sure that didn't usually get applied to having waffles for the first time, but screw bloody convention, eh?
So, she all but bounces through the door to Steph's apartment. )
Steph? Hey, come on, we're going out.

Steph? Hey, come on, we're going out.

( Silly Steph. As if Ellie would make up something as ridiculous sounding as drongo. Please.
And with that, Ellie grins. ) I haven't made them cry, yet, but I can tell you about Ricco's shiny gold pyjamas.
( Seriously, he has nicer pyjamas than she's ever owned. She feels robbed. )
I'm all out of spiders, unfortunately. Next time, maybe. ( Annnnd she's going to just idly bat at Steph with the drying up cloth. ) You ready yet?
no subject
[Because that is definitely a thing that's going to happen.
And.
Hold up.] What's this about Cedric's pyjamas?
[Ellie said other things, she's sure, but this is the more important question. She even pauses in the middle of washing up the last bowl.]
no subject
( Who cares about your life when there's money at stake?
Annnnd-- ) Huh?
( Oh. Without really thinking about how this could sound: ) We had a sleepover one time. He has gold pyjamas. I felt really boring.
no subject
[Idly, because there are definitely more important things to focus on now, like sleepovers.
(Has she ever told Ellie that her dad used to be a game show host? She can't remember.)]
You had a sleepover? [Just. a disbelieving stare.] With Cedric. How'd that go?
no subject
( How else do you think she accumulated so much useless random knowledge?
Turning to look at Steph, now, as she dries some cutlery. ) Yeah, I did.
( And? ) It was fine? I assume he found the bed comfortable. Apparently I'd look good in red or violet.
no subject
She just... shakes her head, finishing up that last dish and setting it to dry.]
Do you even-- Do you think, before you say things? No wonder everyone thinks we're dating, if that's how you talk about us.
[She sounds fond, and she's laughing, but oh my god, Ellie. Talking about finding the bed comfortable and him talking about what she'd look good in she just. can't.]
no subject
( Seriously, what? She's just got the dishcloth in her hand, palms open, wondering why Steph is laughing. )
I think a lot.
( OOhh does she sound a bit offended no not really, just confused. ) And they do not. Coll was just being an idiot, that's all.
no subject
[Just throwing that out there.]
Just-- Look, do me a favour and just go over everything you just said, and think about how that might seem to someone who doesn't know the actual story.
[Can you do that for her, Ellie? She believes in you.]
no subject
( Please.
She's raising her eyebrows at Steph, rolling her eyes a bit, before she actually just... thinks that over. You can see the moment when the oh registers, and she just...
Yeah, okay. Someone looks a bit embarrassed. ) Hold up, is the thought of someone wanting to sleep with me so weird that you just dismiss it automatically?
( Actually offended? Winding Steph up? Who knows )
no subject
Did you miss the part where I was shocked because I thought you'd slept with someone and hadn't told me?
[Okay so, she didn't really think Ellie had slept with Cedric, but she'd entertained the idea, briefly, that something might have happened.]
no subject
Yeah.
( Yeah, she guesses she did. Let her just dry that last bowl, and she's going to drop the cloth over the sink so it can dry. ) We were just talking about his school and stuff. Magic talk, no magic happening or-- whatever.
( What is her life when did it become this and why does she feel so awkward )
no subject
No, magic happening, huh? [And she might just be making a kissy face, giving a suggestive little shimmy. Because she's a dork.
She can sense the awkwardness, and is going to defuse it with a combination of gentle teasing, and making herself look like an idiot.]
no subject
( As remembers her mum saying that when she and Corrie were being terrible, making faces at each other; she also remembers smartly informing her mother that the wind changes direction all the time and her face hadn't gotten stuck yet, and her mother sighing the sigh of the long suffering.
Speaking of long suffering: )
Why do I even like you?
( But, to clarify, ) Cedric's a good mate. I wasn't after any magic happening.
no subject
Over her shoulder:] Because I make a great cup of coffee.
[It's clearly the only reason Ellie keeps her around, as she comes back to Ellie, there's an eyebrow waggle]
Was he after any?
no subject
No.
( Although, her tone does brighten, something of a smile making its way back to the corners of her mouth. )
Actually, I think I scared him with stories about the bike sheds at school and school play rehearsals.
( A bit as if she was saying ah, the good old days. ) Ready?
no subject
[Because she knows exactly what Ellie is talking about, having been a teenager at high school, once.
And to answer the question, she heads to the door, holding it open and gesturing with a flourish for Ellie to exit first.]
no subject
I'll meet you at the bike shed, sweetheart.
( Just before she waltzes out the door. She'd started to relax a bit on taking the AK everywhere, before the (false, she knows it was false) invasion, but now the habit is back. Just in case, it couldn't hurt, so she's slinging it back over her shoulder as casually as if it were just a messenger bag. )
no subject
At least we wouldn't have to worry about who's bringing the condoms.
[Locking the door behind her, she tilts her head at Ellie in a silent would you care to lead the way? since Steph isn't sure where they're going.]
no subject
But she's immature; she laughs. )
Our lives would be so simple. And if everyone already thinks we're dating, we wouldn't even need to be discrete.
( Of course, she doesn't think they actually do, because Steph was just being melodramatic. Lead the way she does, hopping down a few steps at a time because lifts are for losers also for situations where you know without the shadow of a doubt that you won't get trapped in there. )
no subject
[So dry.
Nevermind that she'd actually been a little bit hurt, in those brief moments where she thought something might've happened between Ellie and Cedric without Ellie telling her about it.
That's not anything important, she's just being weird.]
no subject
( Not that she has ever really-- been concerned about her appearance. Only sometimes, rare occasions. There were more important things. And it definitely wasn't something she'd ever thought about lately, not something that ever made her feel a bit restless. She's flippant and lighthearted, and starts walking down the stairs backwards - no hand on the railing - as she talks to Steph. )
And I drool on your pillow.
( Feelings are not complicated here at all )
no subject
[Just tossing that out there as well, as she keeps an eye on Ellie as they walk. It's not that she thinks she'll fall but-- she kind of thinks she might fall.]
The drool is a valid point, I'll give you that.
no subject
For a few moments, she lapses into silence, just turning things over in her mind, the imaginary situation where she and Steph are going out or sleeping together or whatever this bizarre thing that she's composed in her mind is, really, twisting to walk the right way for a few more steps before they reach the ground floor.
It's an excuse for a moment of silence as she pushes the door open, her holding it for Steph, this time.
She's not too sure why she feels so odd, uncomfortable, but it reminds her a fraction of how she felt when they were camping, even without that thick film of awkward that accompanied it, just that physical feeling that seemed just beyond reach.
Wake up, Linton. ) Oh, look. Another beautiful day of pissing down rain. ( It's to her credit how genuinely enthusiastic she manages to be, even as she flashes a cheeky grin at Steph. )
no subject
You know, they always joke about it constantly raining in England, but I never thought they actually meant it.
[Nevermind that this rain is the result of a nuclear winter. Once they're outside, Steph reaches out for Ellie's hand, entwining their fingers. In case that might ease some of the awkwardness in the silence.]
no subject
( Not even dryly said, quite serious as Steph catches her hand, letting her grin give her away. She gives her hand a reassuring squeeze, gently tugging her along towards the NORAH cafe - Steph might recognise the way as Ellie ambles along. She'd rather smooth any awkward away, rather than brooding on it because this is meant to be fun, a good day. All kinds of sentimental crap. )
At least it's not as bad as home. When the rain hit there, the temperature could plummet. Pretty ordinary when you're sleeping outside.
( Not bitter, not even... brooding or serious, just wrinkling her nose and laughing about it. It feels good, to be able to talk about Hell without becoming all locked up. )
