[ There's always some new dish to try out, and today the quest for ingredients — good ingredients, not just the crap one can find anywhere — brings him to a grubbier part of the Market than he might otherwise venture into. It's a little bit... offputting, but if he gets what he wants out of it, it will have been worth it. Probably.

He's scrutinizing a tomato at the moment, head cocked to better see it through one of the eyeholes of his mask, mouth twisted down into a frown. It's decent, but...

But, hang on. Something has caught his eye. The nose of his mask tips just slightly to the side as he eyes a figure near to him. ]

...Arry?

[ She hears. But she continues with her task; it has naught to do with her. That's not her name. ]

[ When the period of polite waiting for one to hear and acknowledge their name being called has passed, Vanadi tries again. He sets the tomato back where he'd found it, clears his throat, and takes a step after her. ]

Pardon-- Arry?

[ Unable to ignore it anymore, she turns her head toward him. Her face is a bemused mask. ]

Excuse me?

[ There, now he's sure of it. It's the same face, no question. He smiles, pleased, and hurries to catch up to her. ]

Hello! Ah-- you undoubtedly don't recognize me, yes? [ He's getting used to that. ]

Go away. [ That would be a yes. ]

[ Too bad for her, he's dealt with this before. ]

In time, my dear, in time. [ And because he's pretty sure a hand would be refused, he skips the handshake offer and sweeps into a courtly bow instead. ] I'm Vanadi of House Vadarta -- you and I met in another world once. Well, not precisely you and I, but a version of you.

[ Without missing a beat: ] Not particularily, but it's kind of you to be concerned.

[ She starts walking away. ]

[ That's fine with him, he'll just fall into step next to her. ]

Never fear, that was naught but heavy sarcasm. I can prove it, though, if you'd like.

[ ok, he has to admit, that's a little more hostile than he remembers. There's a blink under the mask. ]

Have I caught you in a poor mood?

No. This is how I talk to all camel cunts who hound me.

Oh, lovely. For a moment I thought I was being singled out. [ A beat. how do children. ] Are you hungry?

Do you even know my name?

Well -- Arry, isn't it? [ only now he's sounding a little doubtful. ] Or at least, that was what you told me to call you.

No. I've never even heard that name before.

Ah. [ well that's... not quite what he'd expected. ] Does... perhaps the name "Riverrun" mean anything to you?

No.

[ There's a longer pause, but of course the mask hides any thought during it. ]

May I ask your name, then?

Yes.

[ Doesn't mean she'll give it. She turns her back on him. ]

[ A short breath out, but no visible sign of impatience. He heads after her. ]

And what is your name?

Fuck off. Is that so hard for you to understand?

Generally, yes. [ That's with a smile, impossible to tell if it's genuine or not under the mask. ] I did tell you mine, though.

I don't care for it. Leave me alone!

[ There are warnings in her voice that he has pushed too far. Push again and she will be taking a swing at him. ]

[ He takes a quick little half step back, and for the first time the lilting joviality leaves his tone. ]

I'm sorry. I didn't mean to upset.

I'm not upset. I want you to leave.

Might I at least take your name with me?

No.

[ He sighs, but really, there's no arguing with that level of hostility. With an adult, maybe, but kids are different and wholly unsettling. ]

Fine, fine. I wish an excellent day to you, then.

[ And as he turns to go, he makes a mental note to go carefully over the network users. She has to be somewhere on it, and he'd probably better keep an eye on her. ]
