There's really no reason for him to be straying outside of the city limits other than the fact that he can. Whether it was by accident, a mindless wander through the streets that eventually bled away into dirt, or an (un)conscious desire for a change of scenery-- no one could say for certain. Or maybe there's an actual Reason behind it, capital R, where the Red Aura needs to be burnt away a little, take the edge off. A nuclear exercise turned harmless by the lack of company.
But that's all conjecture at this point, and it's one that doesn't really matter 'cause look, he's here, he's moving (for a change), probably expending all the energy that he'll ever have in a three week period. And, of course, as luck (chance, fate) would have it, this is precisely when he moves into clearer pastures.
... The fuck?
He lifts his head, eyes heavy with sleep, a half-assed, deeply buried sense of curiosity sniffing the air at what he knows (like how he knows bullets and rain will never touch him) to be a fake. There's really no reason to break this illusion other than the fact that it makes the Red Aura bare its teeth at the trespass. No reason, but he ends up doing it anyway, almost accidental, as the next step that he takes is one that singes the edges of the fake grass back into the ravaged landscape that it was trying to hide. (Sorry, Neko, this is all happening even before he realizes the source of the illusion.)
