I've never heard of it, but... I haven't heard of many places outside of our solar system.

[Jaime ends up picking up a blue sweater, which he can admit is frankly a little ridiculous. Most of his wardrobe had been in varying shades of blue even before he became the Blue Beetle, but there's such a thing as taking a theme too far.

In acquiescence to this, he picks up a green one and simply tugs it over his shirt to try it on.]

What happened to your kingdom?
khajidont: (Jaime - this is not good news)

[There's not much to say to that. It's utterly unfamiliar to have anyone be that transparent about their own roots, particularly when the aforesaid roots sounds beyond unpleasant.

He knows of the existence of too many crazy things to truly doubt Thassarian's claims, but they sound unearthly even by his standards.

He supposes this is due to the fact that Thassarian isn't exactly from Earth.]

That sounds awful. [He rubs at the back of his neck.] Um, congratulations on getting free from that, anyway.

That's a good way of looking at it. [He offers Thassarian a feeble smile of his own, unsure as to how someone may remain upbeat in the face of something that sounds so awful... but it takes all types.]

Huh. I'm not sure what to tell you without knowing what you already know. Have you heard of America?

IT'S ALL GOOD

Nope. America's a country - and a democracy, so we haven't got a King. We've got a president.

[Does he even know what that is? This guy is from way back, it looks like.] Um, a president's the guy that we vote in to lead.

WE HAVE SOFT TACOS

You've gotta be eighteen or older - [that counts him out, which is just as well considering how little attention he pays to politics] - and an American citizen, basically. That's sort of the idea behind it - everyone getting a fair say in who's in charge.

[He shrugs. He knows a lot of people have a problem with their system, but that's the extent of it.] There's a couple of political parties that back up the people running. I guess you don't get to that point without any training. And the loser just goes back to doing whatever he was doing before he started the campaign.

It's probably as close as we're going to get. We used to do the whole royalty thing - [now he's really oversimplifying things, but he didn't pay that much attention in history and he doesn't feel like including the details in Earth History 101] - but then we switched over.
