( semi-open )
Date & Time: June 11th
Location: Initiative Hospital
Characters: Lavi, Hospital roomies (Collette & co) and visitors!
Summary: LAVI'S HARD LIFE as he turns back to his normal size at the worst possible time.
Warnings: naked butts.
[ The sound of something ripping is what pulls Lavi away from sleep, drifting back into the land of feverish semi-consciousness. At first he can't really discern whether the sound was something from his dreams or if it came from the room. It's only when he moves a hand to rub his eye that the realization starts dawning on him because his hand is big. The sound had come from him as his body suddenly got too big for the small child-sized hospital gown he'd been wearing.
There's a moment of dumbfounded staring at his own hand before he suddenly bolts upright, exclaiming with breathless excitement: ]
I'm back to normal!
[ And then it occurs to him . . .
Wait shit, he's back to normal and he's not wearing anything nor has anything to wear.
Kanda had said a week, but considering the circumstances he hadn't really kept an eye on the number of passing days. It was hard to when one was stuck in a hospital bed, not always entirely lucid and often losing track of time so he hadn't even thought of asking someone to bring him some clothes in case the effects of the potion finally wore off. It's too late now, but it's still something that needs to be remedied.
So he can only hope he didn't wake anyone else, however unlikely, as he makes a frantic grab for his tablet— and ends up toppling right out of bed with a loud thud. So much for not waking anyone. ]

With one hand he's grabbing and tugging the sheet from his bed while he sticks the other up in the air, waving it, before his head and bare shoulders appear above the bed. Her question is mostly an incoherent jumble, but it's not too hard to guess what she's asking.
He somehow manages a sheepish smile. ]
Sorry, sorry, 't was just me!
no subject
It was close to wearing out now. )
Oh. Okay.
( Only her brow furrows, and she opens her eyes wide, looking Lavi's way.
There's that hair, and the eyepatch, but the rest --
Collette pushes herself up to a seated position, eyes wide. )
Lavi?! What happened! You didn't -- ( she coughed twice, clearing her throat ) -- spontaneously hit puberty, did you?
no subject
He considers maybe flagging down a nurse to get a new hospital gown before texting . . . Kanda is probably his best bet, being closer to Lavi's size than any of his other friends. Except he gets distracted from that thought by Collette's reaction.
He can only look confused as he raises an eyebrow in her direction. ]
What? No, I— Wait, didn't I tell ya? I'm not a [ cough ] kid. I just looked like one because our science division is full of nutjobs.
no subject
No! ( She exclaims, shaking her head, finding this all so absurd. It's funny, really, and it being funny means she tries to laugh. The attempt leaves her curled up on her side, facing away from Lavi and coughing, close to tears due to the mixture of laughter and coughing she's caught up in right now.
When she finds herself in a lull, she swallows, giggles trailing off. )
You never mentioned that minor detail!
( Geez, she'll be giggling again. Just -- what? )
no subject
Lavi watches on in a mixture of perplexed, sheepish embarrassment and concern. Really, he could have sworn he'd told her, but that actually explains a lot in hindsight. It's almost funny how he's so good at memorizing but forgets obvious important things (like his wood seal.) Except it's probably not funny at all, not if Bookman had a say in it.
There's an urge to move over, pat her on the back to help her, but in his current state of undress that's probably way awkward so he stays put. ]
Sorry, I complained to so many people, I thought you'd be one of 'em. I'm actually nineteen.
no subject
( Her coughing laughter continues: somehow, his age made the whole of the situation even more absurd. She supposes he's not 100, or older, some vampiric construction such as those she's met before, but it's a very Honey, I Aged Our Kid Back To Seven kind of moment.
She eventually clears her throat, still facing away from him. She figures it's easier like that for now -- and really, she's not supposed to be tempted to look anymore, was she? Probably not, plus it had the whole weeeeeeeird vibe after considering him to be a younger kid since she met him. )
How did they even manage to do that?
no subject
[ He can't help but snort in amusement now. The entire situation is pretty darn ridiculous. One could always trust the Science Division to make things weird and awkward even when they weren't actually around. (And for him to forget to mention something important like that.)
With her still facing away from him, he untangles the sheets so he can more comfortably drape them over himself. As long as he stays under them it should be fine, right? ]
I have no idea. They have all sorts of weird potions and stuff. We accidentally dropped one and . . . well. [ She's seen the result. ]
no subject
( She means it as a rhetorical amusement, peeking back over her shoulder. )
You're decent, right?
( Wrapping her mind around a change in physical state being due to a potion doesn't take much; she's surprised magics like that exist when he's from, and where, now. Since she has yet to hear of science managing that when she's from.
People'd make a fortune, using that on people with wrinkles! Even if it did wear out over time. Actually... Probably more, with that kind of shelf life. )
You never mentioned having magic there before!
no subject
[ As rhetorical as it was meant. Still, touché. ]
Uh, as much as I can be.
[ Covered up with just a sheet, but well it does the job for now. It's a bit surprising how well she's taking the whole thing, but he figures it's probably what this place full of people and creatures from different worlds did to you. It makes the situation less awkward at least. ]
Magic? No, it's just science. Although it does sound like magic, huh? Our Science Division just likes coming up with strange things.
[ There's a beat as something occurs to him. ]
If it's magic you want . . . [ Hold on, he's turning to fetch something from the drawer of the bedside table. Enjoy his bare back in the mean time! ]
no subject
You guys have some crazy sorts of science, we don't have anything like that when I'm from.
( She restrains herself from asking after what magical something he's going for, waiting until his voice sounds like it's projecting straight at her. Geez! )
no subject
Crazy scientists make crazy things. Here, watch this.
[ C'mon Collette, drop that hand, he's holding up and shaking a tiny hammer held between two fingers for emphasis. ]
no subject
Except it's a hammer.
And she sees that and promptly bursts out laughing, which starts her coughing again, and has her crying in a mixture of pain and amusement because even though that is probably a really cool magic hammer Lavi is a naked boy in a sheet showing her his hammer okay.
Maturity. Sure hoping he wasn't expecting any at the moment. )
no subject
But really, he's trying to show off here! He doesn't wait for her to regain her composure this time. Instead . . . ]
Big hammer, little hammer! Grow, grow, GROW!
[ With every "grow" uttered, the hammer does indeed grow as if to emphasize the word until it's almost big enough to nearly fill the entire room. All the while Lavi's still holding the handle between a mere two fingers as if it weighs nothing (which it doesn't, not to him.) ]
How's that? [ Surely that will distract from the whole awkward state of undress situation ... right? ]
no subject
Mostly naked boy talking about his hammer's size and commanding it to grow!
Not to say she's not impressed. The hammer doing what it does is amazing! But she desperately has needed something ridiculous to laugh over, uninhibited and without needing to find the humor lurking behind something else, and so it feels nice (albeit painful) to be laughing at something so genuinely, coincidentally, partly perversely hilarious. )
Oh -- ( she manages at last, the coughing and the laughing calming down, her eyes still streaming as she rapidly blinks the extra water away; ) -- oh, that's impressive all right! I bet the girls either love you, or run screaming!
( Ugly snorting into her hands, she really -- really has to pull herself together here. )
I'm sorry, I'm sorry, this is really -- amazing, actually. How can you hold it like --( Okay no she's giggling again. ) -- like it weighs next to nothing? How can you even balance that thing? It's so big!
no subject
As unintentional as it is and perhaps rather embarrassing on his part, her laughter is still a nice thing to hear though. It's not a sound often heard in a hospital full of gloom and the steadily dying, so it makes him feel better too. Even if he doesn't show it. ]
Oi, don't die. That'll be awkward to explain.
[ "Sorry I showed your girlfriend my hammer and she died laughing" is not something he wants to tell Caesar. The comment about girls goes ignored because he likes to think he's smoother than that. (He's not.)
Instead he perks up again at a chance to explain. ]
You know how they have the weapons here be tuned to you with the— sentience thingy? It's like that. It doesn't weigh anything to me because I'm its compatible user.
[ He purposely doesn't tell her it's called Innocence because in current context of the situation it might just set her off again. He lets go and as the hammer falls it rapidly starts shrinking until Lavi catches the handle again and it stops at a more manageable size albeit one still much bigger than the original hammer he was holding. ]
It can do a lot more than this too.
no subject
It's probably not really as funny as she thinks it is. She doesn't mind. He doesn't seem to, at least not enough to get angry and leave. )
Like what?
( She can ask, basking in the afterglow of laughter and pleasant feeling as long as she can, to fight off the rest. )
no subject
Although even if he did mind, it's not like can truly get up and leave. Not in his undressed state and not with his current health (not without quickly getting chased down by a nurse again anyway.) ]
Control the elements.
[ That seems a more safer innuendo-free answer than explaining it can also extent. ]
no subject
( It's a long ago note to self. Collette looks intrigued, shifting so her arm drapes over the side bar of her hospital bed. She rests her chin on her arm. )
Control them how? That's not like Thor's Hammer, is it? Thor so had a hammer.
no subject
[ He echoes blankly, name unfamiliar to him. The other name fortunately does ring a bell. Norse mythology, god of thunder and although mythology isn't his strongest point, he knows that much.
His grin widens. ]
It's much better than Thor's hammer.
[ He hesitates for a total of five seconds before summoning forth his seals, the symbols spinning to life and illuminating the walls. As long as he doesn't hit them, it's totally fine! ... Surely. Never mind that Bookman would kill him if he saw him now. ]
I hit one of these. Each symbol stands for an element, it can certainly do more than just conjuring up lightnin'!
no subject
( It's a joke: elements meant fire and wind and water and heart if Captain Planet was right. )
How many elements? I know you don't mean like in chemistry.
no subject
As for her question, he gestures to the symbols to indicate their number. However: ]
Although it's this many, I actually haven't learned 'em all yet. I know three, but I can combine them too. [ The symbols spin in one last circle before, at a lack of command, fading away. ]
no subject
( She peers over the edge of her bed, like that will reveal the faded signs have hidden themselves on the ground instead of simply fading away entirely.
Sigh. No such luck! )
It doesn't take energy to make them show like that, does it?
no subject
[ Her peering gets an amused look before it turns wry at her question. Because . . . ]
Just invoking the hammer takes energy. [ Said hammer is shrinking back to its original mini size as he speaks. ]
no subject
Of course it does! That's it, back to bed wtih you. You grew up, but not well, huh? Sleep! And medicine, whatever else the doc's here are giving us. Save your energy, and all!
( Considering how raspy and reedy her voice sounds, she can probably follow the same advice. )
no subject
[ How nice it would be to both be tall and well again, but alas! Such is his unfortunate life.
He'd follow her advice, but right now the need to get clothed kind of outweighs the need for sleep. ]
I'm just callin' a friend over for some clothes first, but you should go back to sleep.
