They thought that trips to Alaska and getting shots would be the beginning of a relaxing break. Instead they got quarantines and bombs and people getting mad at them. Big. Sigh.

Something light and refreshing to be different from what is going on outside. [ She hums to herself for a moment as she grabs a knife and a towel. ] Not really! I'll just be happy to be eating some of your cooking, is all.

[Kido ponders what kind of stew. She mumbles under her breath as she gets things together, "Pork, potatoes, onions, carrots, peppers...?" before looking up.] Then why don't we do some dessert, too? It doesn't have to be anything hard.

Hm... [ Kaede ponders for a moment what they could do as a multi-serving, not-too-complicated dessert while cutting the lemons in half. She looks over as she squeezes half of one into the pitcher. ] Maybe a modified cookie parfait? All we would have to do is get some cookies, pudding, and then just alternate layers of pudding with chunks of cookie.

That sounds really good. All right. Your mission is to take care of dessert too while I get dinner together. We'll have something impressive to show-off despite the situation. It should cheer up everyone.

Yes ma'am! [ She grins and salutes with her dry hand before focusing back on the lemonade. ] Any requests on cookie flavors? I've seen chocolate and vanilla ones around.

Hm, chocolate might be best for something extra sweet. If we have choices, it'll be a pain and someone will probably request both or something.

[Whenever she imagines "annoyances with food" she's thinking of Kano.]

[ Haha, she thought of Kano, too. Great minds, y'know...

She tosses all the squeezed lemons into a bag and adds some sugar into the pitcher. ]

Chocolate it will be. Is there anything else we should get our hands on?

That should be good enough, right? It's mostly to brighten things up. Food usually helps a lot. We used to make dinner together when we needed to cheer up.

It sounds great to me! And as you said, it's all filling with a treat at the end, or for later if someone wants.

[ The large spoon is set aside as she covers the pitcher up, cleaning up her area. ] I'll head out for them now since I'm done with the lemonade.

All right. Let me know if they need anything else.

[In the meantime she tries to think of a way to word herself and works on the stew. When Kaede comes back, Kido greets her with a small smile.]

Oi, Kaede. Here. [She already finished a bowl of stew and set it aside for Kaede.] You deserve a break.

[A beat. Just go for it.] I'd be lucky to have a sister like you. I was thinking that for a while now.

Hi~ [ She puts the bags up on the counter and takes the bowl of stew with a grin. ] Thank you! It smells so good in here.

[ She leans against the counter and takes a spoonful as Kido says the following statement. The spoon goes back in the bowl as she looks up at the older teen, and the smile on her face is different from her normal cheerful smile. It is completely genuine and practically radiates warmth. ]

And I would be lucky to have an older sister like you. You've taken care of me more than necessary here and I really, really appreciate it. [ She sniffs a bit and wipes at her eyes with her hands. ] I know my dad would appreciate it, too, if he were to ever be brought back.

[She scratches her cheek, a little embarrassed but in a pleasant way. The point was to sound cool about it but Kaede is too sincere to keep up any facade.]

I'd like to meet your dad someday. But I'll take care of you like you've taken care of us. It's really something. You're pretty amazing, Kaede. I wanted you to know that.

[ PFFT! Kido always sounds, talks, and acts cool in Kaede's eyes! ]

Ah, thank you, Kido. I'll keep being the best I can for you and everyone!

You're already doing your best. [She puts a hand on Kaede's head and smiles gently.] Just make sure you get some rest, too, lil' sis. You're in training to be a hero and a leader, too. We got to relax when we can.

[ She grins up at Kido and nods. ]

I will, I promise! By the way, the stew came out excellent.

Eheh, well it should. [Ignore that blush you saw nothing.] Since we worked so hard, we can have the first of the desserts, too. Only fair.

I agree! Next time, Kano can give us a helping hand so he can be one of the first ones to have dessert, too.
