They thought that trips to Alaska and getting shots would be the beginning of a relaxing break. Instead they got quarantines and bombs and people getting mad at them. Big. Sigh.

This old man in is lucky enough to have a few young ones looking out for him. [He's busy continuing with his science. Stir this beaker, add a little iron to that one. Science doesn't do itself!] I assume the Dan haven't let you wander without a safe place of your own?

I'm glad! And you're right — I've been staying here with them actually, in the basement. Kido and I have been cooking frequently as a thank you to Asch and [ what did she say the other guy's name was? oh yeah! ] Luke.

What fortunate young men. Why, all the people residing here may end up with a healthy diet if they're not careful.

[ She giggles. ] There's nothing wrong with a healthy diet! Not all healthy diets are boring~

Is that so? Then why do so many of the youngsters here seem incapable of having one?

The laziness of not wanting to, or not trying to get used to the different fusions of fruit and vegetables? Being used to a not-so-healthy diet back home? [ She shrugs lightly. ] Or they don't have a reliable adult here to make sure their diet isn't just junk food.

[Jade is definitely not a reliable adult when it comes to feeding people.] A combination, most likely. [You can't confirm without testing the variable factors—Jade no.]

[ Her father isn't either, unless someone wants to live with him off of shrimp fried rice all the time. ] It's not hard for me since I had to steadily increase how much food I ate due to my figure skating.

[Jade is pretty sure Kaede is the most capable adult in this house right now, and yes he's counting himself.] Do you have any advice for me on a balanced diet?

[ laksdf if she heard that she would be so flattered! Blushing ahoy okay. ]

Ah, well, just eating regularly is good! You don't need to restrict yourself to three big meals a day — several smaller meals throughout the day works just fine. And always have a cheat day!

I had no idea that cheating was also important.

[Jade's meals are of course carefully balanced to ensure that he gets the proper nutrients to keep his body in prime condition. He is a soldier; he has to take care of himself. That doesn't stop his amusement at this.]

It is! I mean, eating right and eating healthy is always great, but at some point people do get irritated with keeping themselves from chips and candy and ice cream sundaes. Those can be enjoyed, too, just not all in one day! There's no way I could cut purin completely out of my life.

Ah, but it's so much easier to fall to temptation after that first indulgence.

True, true, but I find it easy to control myself.

Even in the presence of purin? My, what remarkable self-discipline.

Yep!! I know, it sounds crazy to not just eat purin all day on my cheat day.

Indeed, I can't go a day without it myself.

Or rather, that's what I would say if I had ever tried it.

It can! I just don't know how to make it. Maybe if I can find a recipe in one of the books in the library...

You should make that first priority. Why, think of all the people here who may not even know what it is.

[ She now has the most determined look on her face that a preteen girl can have, complete with smacking a fist into the palm of the opposite hand. ] I so will! And once I know the recipe is good, I will bring you some!!

[Jade is way too amused.] I'm honoured. But don't you think the others here will feel jealous? I would feel too guilty to be the only one in this house to have purin.

[ She laughs lightly. ] Well, I would certainly make enough to share! That way, Kano can't try and beat you up for homemade purin.

How kind of you to protect me from Kano's wrath.
