Summary: as usual, anti-spam mingle log due to numerous interactions between numerous people. action, voice, text, video, post-its.
Warnings: bombs?!

They thought that trips to Alaska and getting shots would be the beginning of a relaxing break. Instead they got quarantines and bombs and people getting mad at them. Big. Sigh.

[ There is one (1) preteen who comes downstairs with some cookies and pudding in a cup, and a flash of silver enters her peripheral. A pause to scope out where it came from and form an icicle in her hand — she would not let a United Earth scumbag ambush her — she proceeds forward before seeing upon closer inspection that it's simply the other redhead that lives here. Luke, right? She's pretty sure that's what Kido said his name is, since Asch has the longer hair.

She lets the icicle dissipate, leaning against the wall as she eats and watches him go through his drills. It's only when Luke decides to stop for longer than five seconds that she will clap and make her presence known. ]

That's really impressive!

[Luke is in his own little world. He's not necessarily spacy, just focused. There's a reason he was able to beat Asch in a duel twice. He's strong, but he's improved a great deal from where he used to be. He's aware that he's being watched. Considering everyone is probably bored, it's not too much of a stretch to assume he has an audience. He lets their eyes slide off his back as he works on a lunge.

When he finally takes a break, Kaede's voice cuts through. He lets it.]

Ah, you were watching...?

[He faces her, looking a little embarrassed.]

It's just practice. Real fighting is a lot different.

I hope you don't mind! Your sword happened to catch my eye, which is why I came over here in the first place.

[ She cants her head at his statement as she eats another spoonful, speaking only once the pudding is gone. ] Well, if you're that intense from practice, you must be super focused and really good during a fight!

You're Luke, correct?

Hahah, of course not. As long as you're not trying to grab it or something, it's fine. I'm just... not used to having an audience.

[Wow, she is just laying on the compliments.]

As long as I can protect myself and others, that's good enough for me.

[Moooodeeeeeeesssst. He perks at the sound of his name, though.]

Y-yeah, I'm Luke. Are you a friend of Shintaro? Or Asch? [He assumes all the kids know each other. He's just along for the ride, to be honest.]

[ The warning makes her raise an eyebrow, and the look on her face is pretty much "r u srs" as she responds. ]

Who would be dumb enough to grab a sword, especially the blade?

[ She nods twice, once at the statement about protection and the question about her association. ] A friend of Shintaro, although I have spoken to Asch several times through text. Not in person yet, though. I'm Kaede.

[... Sassy as fuq.] If someone didn't realize how sharp it was, maybe...? I don't know.

[He scritches at his cheek.] He's kind of blunt in person, too. But it's nice to meet you, Kaede.

[He sheathes his sword, then offers her a hand. Right hand this time, even though he was fighting with his left.]

[ She is the sassiest preteen you will meet. /hair flip! ] You have to have lived under a rock or something to go and grab the blade of a sword, knife, whatever...

[ She giggles softly. ] He didn't come off too blunt via text, but I am not surprised to hear that.

[ The spoon is set inside the pudding as she takes his hand, shaking it with a smile. ] Likewise, Luke! Have you been in Exsilium long?

You never know. [He was locked up in a manor for seven years.]

Oh, that's good. He's really serious all the time, but he's not that bad.

[Asch is really only an asshole to Luke.]

I've been here since the third month. So that makes it... almost sixteen weeks. How many months is that? I still don't really get the calendar these guys use.

[ "The manor is the rock," she would whisper into the wind.

She cants her head at his numbers. "The third month?" Well, the third month is March, and "sixteen weeks..." Give her a moment as she falls quiet and counts how many weeks on average are in a month, and thus how many months he's been here by her calendar. ]

So...four months! Is your calendar completely different from the one used here?

[He nods slowly.] Yeah. Auldrant has thirteen months, for starters, and a lot more weeks in a month. Earth years are really short compared to Auldrant's, now that I think about it...

So one more month than us, but more weeks? Like... [ She's just going to guess a number. ] ...eight weeks?

Yeah, that's really close. Most of our months have fifty-eight days.

[He smiles a bit.]

Now you know why I'm so confused about how long I've been here. It's about two months for me, but four months for this place.

Fifty-eight days!? Whoa, so two years for us is like one year for you guys or something?

Is it? I never counted up all the days in an earth year. [He doesn't really like math.] I guess it must be, if our months are almost twice as long.

[Which begs the question: how old is Luke, /really/?]

Well, that gives me something to do when I'm bored out of my mind here.

Thanks again for letting some of us stay here during the craziness.

I always preferred training to math.

[He smiles at her, however briefly.]

It's no problem. You've been helping a lot too, and... you know, if our friends are here, we don't have to worry about them.

[ She laughs softly. ] I need to give myself a break from training and make sure I don't forget too much about my schooling.

[ She nods in agreement at the statement. Kaede doesn't have to chase down most of her social circle because they are in the basement, so her list of people to check on is small. ] Definitely. It makes it easier to help them out, too.
