It took her awhile to realize it was the only time she was ever happy to be in that room, or any room since she got here. Even then, she was as alone when she got there as she had been since she arrived here. There was very little in this world that she could bring herself to trust.
God, she wanted to get out of here.
Not the basement, though. That wasn't so bad. The Dan wasn't, either-- Nill genuinely liked the few children in the group she had met, and they had been kind to her. They trusted her. They were about the only thing she did trust these days. One of them, a girl that Nill had never met, even gave her medicine, which... she hadn't gotten until then, because she was busy not being in the hospital.
She has better control now. There's little for Kanaya to be concerned by, though of course there's no way for her to know that. She was mostly just sitting quietly when Kanaya came over, and Nill blinks at first, almost looking confused. Who--
She doesn't need to wonder long, because Kanaya recognizes her. It's all there in her head - Nill, looking so much sicker than she had thought she was in Kanaya's memories, the horrible onslaught, passing out, being taken to the hospital...
Maybe she should have tried to get her attention again before she left, but she couldn't bring herself to. She offers a ghost of a smile, and reaches for the glass of water carefully. She holds it in one hand, and pulls her tablet out to type with the other, though it's all clumsy and careful, unlike her usual practiced grace with it.]

(And she had been in a hospital. That possibility was magnetic, she wasn't sure if it attracted her or pushed away...)
These observations were more faint subconscious guidelines than thougts considered in detail one by one. Kanaya's response was in fact fairly prompt. She tilted her head as her lips formed a somewhat thinner line than before. "Don't worry much about having to answer me quickly, you know - I've got plenty of time here and you've only got two hands; I don't want you to inconvenience yourself."

its fine. Im used to it
[It occurs to her that she should probably say something, acknowledge things. It would be polite, and there was no telling what would have become of her if she'd been left wandering the streets instead of pulled to the hospital. Kanaya had probably done very good by her.
Even so, she can't help but wonder - would she have died? And if so, would she have come back healthy?
(Not coming back wasn't an option. But coming back able to breathe properly again would have been nice.)]
thank you for before

Don't mention it. That's what I do. Well, did, hopefully once the bombing is over our entire medical division can shut down.
[Of course she's used to it. That's what happens when you're not some perfect little able-bodied human being. The microaggressions are like the slight discomfort that comes with breathing.]

do you work int he hospital?
[She remembers seeing her there after she had woken up, the other people she was tending to. Nill had mistaken it for visitation rather than assistance.]

I've just been volunteering during this plague. Hopefully they won't need my excuse for help by the time the month is over.
