OPEN | I heard you were drinking whiskey straight from the bottle last night.
Date & Time: The plague plot duration into apparently the bombing shit
Location(s): Include, Unit 610, Tony's workshop, the clinic, wherever.
Characters: Tony. Probably also Max Kearney, and whoever else feels like getting involved here.
Summary: Long spans the onset of the plague plot through to the bombing. Feel free to make threads near the beginning (he'll have the sniffles on occasion), or towards the end (Tony's going to be sick in the clinic by then), or during the bombing if you'd rather do it here or came up with fun stuff, OR WANT SOMETHING SPECIAL just give me a timeframe or something in your title so i know what I'm replying to.
Warnings: T for Tony. E for ... Everybody else?
[ Like I said. Free for all for things that were planned and needed a place for, or for things that spring to mind and clearly need doing, or something like that. Anything from this whole month that didn't already have a special place, will go here. ]

middle ish! you know what
Tony? [ It's casual, light. She doesn't see him right now, but he could easily be under something or in a corner and it's just polite to give warning of your general approach when you're using someone else's space. ] You here?
i didn't at first but i figured it out
It's just that he can't be sick. He refuses to allow it, even when it's obvious, because a few minutes ago he stumbled and missed his chair and found the floor and it was so nice and cool that he had to get back up immediately lest the rational part of his mind finally cotton on to what the rest is dutifully ignoring. He's vaguely aware of someone asking for him, and he takes a few seconds to gather his thoughts from where they scattered across the floor, a glass being of mental presence that fared about as well against the concrete reality as anyone might have expected.
He spots her when he straightens back up, having been rummaging for something in a lower cabinet. (Totally wasn't resting. He was rummaging. Quietly.) Plasters a practiced-to-look-totally-genuine grin on his face, and he's quite good at that sort of bullshit. ] Hey! Good to see you amongst the walking dead like me. [ hah get it look i mashed two shows together to make a funny ]
you shhhhhhh
It's only a matter of time at this rate, though I guess we're making progress towards a cure. [ Maybe. If they're really lucky. But that's about when she takes a closer look at him and her eyebrows raise, moving towards him a little faster as she raises a hand to see if she can check his temperature. ] You're not actually looking so hot.
never
Some sort of progress, anyway. It's slower than it should be, apparently. People dropping down while they try and work on something to stop other people from dropping. [ Nnn he backs away from that. ] No touchy. Can't be too careful at a time like this, you know. I always look hot, I'm offended. I don't come to your clubhouse and insult you.
well that was a predictable response i suppose
Well, you know, apparently the disease spreads pretty quickly. [ Yeah because that's not horribly suspicious at all, right there. ] You know exactly what I meant, please. And I don't have a clubhouse.
i can try and be more creative next time
That's just worse - now I don't even have the choice. This is an uneven playing field, I have an unwanted handicap. You should go find a clubhouse like, right now, I bet there's some new openings. [ Totally not a callous way to look at a plague there, man. ] You find one and let me know and then I'll figure out if my feelings need recompense.
you are never actually going to shhh though i'm pretty sure
Seriously, it's really easy to tell you're just talking to distract me. [ Folding her arms as she watches him, frowning. ] Tony.
probably not, no. i don't see it being a thing that happens
Also seriously Max stop just, smashing through his defense mechanisms. He's going to keep trying anyway. ] No it isn't. I'm not distracting you, I'm fine. You know what, I'm sure you could help people feel better in the clinic, you should probably go do that, be useful. I'll stay here, keep working on this. [ General gesture to his workstation, currently covered in chemical diagrams and mathematical formulas written and scribbled out and written again. One computer is running a virtual simulation, and he totally doesn't almost knock something over in the process of gesturing to it like that. ]
yes see i thought i was right about that. it's ok though i like you talking.
She finds that smashing through defense mechanisms is the only way to make certain people get help. And he is one of those people. ] I'm not going near a hospital. [ No no hospitals. But even that is not a successful distraction, here. ] Tony, come on, let me check your temperature. When was the last time you ate or drank water?
you like me making noise~
Although. Eugh. He can't hide the way he blanches a little bit at the idea. ] Please don't talk about food right now. Water's only slightly more palatable. Why, when did you last eat? Is the water contaminated now? That seems like a reasonable assertion. [ Because, can't not deflect. ]
i think that's quite established, yes.
And ha, yeah. That's about what she thought. ] Right, okay, you're either lying down here or back at your apartment or in the clinic. Those are the options.
\o/
Tony reacts to that about as well as one would expect. ] What? Excuse you, I was doing fine. I am doing fine. You don't get to tell me what my options are. [ Even if the wobble in his step would appear to be reaching for somewhere to lie down. Anywhere to lie down, really. ]
i'm glad you enjoy making noises for me
Yeah, she was expecting about that, and she's not touching him but she's certainly taking a few steps closer because he looks like he's about to fall over and she's going to need to catch him, and she really doesn't want him to simply hit the floor. ] You're not doing fine, okay, it's pretty obvious to anyone with eyes. I happen to have those. Come on, you need to lie down for at least a little bit.
well i'm good at it
and nope, hands up defensively, backing away unsteadily, because n o p e ]
I was doing totally fine before you came in here, okay, nobody was questioning my anything before you showed up. I've got great eyes, intimate knowledge of my own body - very intimate, I could go into detail if you want, would that have any effect on your current weird and sudden desire for proximity? Seriously, sto--
[ well. unsteadily backing away from someone when you're not that tidy a person is probably not really surprising when it results in tripping over things. ]
you are excellent at noises it's great
she has like. two of those. and sometimes she's selfless because of old instincts she can't keep from kicking in. but that's about it. be happy tony! you're special. ]
Oh for fuck's sake. No one was here to question your anything because you've been working alone with dangerous tools while not eating or drinking for who knows how long. [ she is so unimpressed right now. ] No, I think Pepper would mind me having intimate knowledge of your body, it's fine, just let me -
[ Help, is the word she was going to go for there, but then he's falling and she's having to scramble to barely make it in time to keep him from hitting the ground, and really she should have seen that one coming even more than she did. Balance is a little tricky here, with two of them to do it for. ]
8D
or he can like, fall over, that works too. that doesn't completely defeat his own point at all, nope.
He doesn't actually remember between talking and being on the floor suddenly, and he's sick enough that he couldn't even tell you right now if he just got injured in the fall. He just comes back to himself looking at her from a new perspective. ]
The fuck. Seriously though, you're gonna get sick, go home. I'm sick, happy? Go away.
you have the best smiles too
and yes he totally just fell over, a lot, excessively, and now she's sitting on the floor with his head in her lap making soothing noises as he comes back to, one hand firmly on his shoulder so that he doesn't try to get up because no. ]
Would you like me to explain the fuck? It's a simple matter of biology and - [ really, seriously, he's going with that. ] Why would I go away if you're sick, that doesn't make sense.
you be quiet
fuck
also that shoulder thing is probably a good idea, even if it's likely that his attempts to sit up barely even seem like that's what he's doing, apparently. :| ]
How does that not make sense? This is a highly contagious disease. Communicable. The more exposure, the more risk - why would you even want to be here? I'll be fine. I've got JARVIS; I'll call if I need help.
no i don't want to
yeah her hand is totally staying there, because she has about zero (0) faith in him not trying to do something really stupid while sick. ]
You're not going to be fine if you're here alone, you don't have anything you need to take care of a sick person. Your options are the clinic, the apartment, or here and me staying. [ just dodging the question on why would you even want to be here, because she feels like that answer is at once obvious and one she doesn't like admitting out loud, okay, she doesn't Talk About Friendship. ]
tough
He's trying to figure out a loophole for this, and the thought process is actually almost visibly passing over his face, considering how much effort he's putting into thinking straight. After a few seconds he starts reasoning aloud just because it's easier. ] I don't wanna get Pepper sick too. And I don't want to be around all the other sick people, because that just seems like a surefire way to get worse fast. [ Last ditch efforts, man. ] This is why I was staying here, out of the way, off by myself, and now you're here and you're messing it up, okay, I can take care of myself. Why aren't you sick anyway, that's not even remotely fair. Not that I want you to be sick. It doesn't sound like it anymore but I'm still mad at you by the way, it just takes too much effort to directly argue with you anymore.
i'm not gonna!
She listens the whole way through his justification, rests the back of one hand against his forehead long enough to feel his temperature. Given that she frowns, it's not a result she likes. ] You can be as mad at me as you like. There's a third bedroom in the apartment, you can stay in there and it'll be fine. I don't think you are capable of taking care of yourself right now, and I'm pretty sure if you were you wouldn't be anyways, so. I'll probably be sick soon, I've been exposed plenty over the past couple days.
