[Another day, another trip to the market - Emil still hasn't quite gotten the hang of modern technology like refrigerators, and it's nicer to get ingredients fresh (as much as he can here, at least) instead of always worrying about spoiling like he does when traveling. He's gotten more used to the bustle of the marketplace in his three months in this world, and since recovering from the virus (along with certain other events) he's feeling in a good mood.

So when Emil spots somebody he recognizes from the missions he's been on, he satisfies his curiosity and approaches.]

We've met before, haven't we? I don't think I ever caught your name.

[ That sounds really impressive to him. ]

Light magic... sort of like magical flash grenades? Is your friend here too?

[ Considering how many friends he has here it wouldn't be surprising to him if she was. ]

No, she isn't. But if you're really interested, I can introduce you to some of the other people I know who can use it.

[Which is...basically all the others from his world outside himself, come to think of it.]

[ A short nod. He doubts that he'll ever be able to learn something like that himself, but it sounds like it'd be an interesting sight. ]

If they wouldn't mind giving a demonstration sometime anyway.

I'll ask them the next time I see them, then. It probably won't hurt to ask.

[He's not sure about Zelos, but maybe Sheena? Her magic is a little different from the kind most people use, but it's still more than he can use.]

I appreciate it, thank you.

[ He wonders if he should mention this to Lelouch. He's not sure how interested he is in seeing something like this, but it can't hurt to ask if he'd like to come along too. He'll definitely need to mention it to Euphie. He's almost sure she will. ]

I could show you more of my own artes as well, if you'd like. They're not the same as spells, but they come from the same source.

Definitely. We don't have anything like that in my world, and it's good to know as much as possible about the people I'm working with here.

What about you? What do people use to fight where you come from?

[quisling]

For more personal battles? Guns, though there are still people that fight with swords or using their own bodies as a weapon. Most warfare is done in Knightmare Frames, however.

[ Though he's not sure if Emil's world has Knightmares or guns, since their way of fighting is so different. ]

Knightmare Frames? Are those weapons, too?

Something like that, but they can be used for more than just fighting even if they aren't often utilized that way.

[ A pause. ]

Do you have robots in your world?

[knightofcourage]

Robots?

[Emil has to think that over.]

Not that I know of. What are they?

[quisling]

[ Wow, this is going to be harder to explain than he thought it would be. ]

It might be easier to start by asking what sort of technology you have where you're from.

There's...technology, I guess. I don't know much about it.

[You miss things when you're asleep for a few millennia, don't judge!]

[ Suzaku actually looks pretty surprised by that one though. ]

Really? I guess you didn't come from a city then.

[knightofcourage]

[Suzaku you don't even know.]

No, I didn't. The town I lived in was pretty small.

[ He really doesn't. :( ]

This might not be easy to explain then... Basically... when you think of a Knightmare think of something vaguely human shaped made out of metal.

Like a golem?

[That fits, right? Except metal, instead of clay or rock!]

[ Suzaku has to think about that for a moment. He's kind of familiar with the concept, but since they don't really exist in his world he's got to debate over it for a few seconds. ]

Something like that, yeah.

And you use those to fight?

[Most people can't do that where he's from. Huh.]

[quisling]

Some of us do. There are restrictions on who they allow to pilot them, so I'm actually something of an exception when it comes to pilots.

[knightofcourage]

An exception...so do you have to have some kind of ability?

[Makes sense, sort of like magic or Emil's own relationship with monsters, only somebody's made rules out of it.]

[quisling]

[ Shaking his head. ]

No, nothing like that. Just a high compatibility with the Lancelot. Uh, that is, one of the Knightmares a couple of my friends created.

[knightofcourage]

Oh! Well, it's good that you two get along so well then. How long has it been since you started?

[quisling]

[ A laugh. He's not sure Emil is totally getting what a Knightmare is, but he won't try to correct him now since it doesn't matter that much. He doubts he'll see the Lancelot again before he leaves this world anyway. ]

Not that long actually. It's been less than a year.
