Missionmas in July (closed)
Date & Time: July
Location: two cities
Characters: killer, vampire, wondergirl
Summary: Missions. One peaceful starter for each with room for violence in sequels.
Warnings: Alcohol use for Shiki, asylum topics for Alice.
A crowded, rowdy tavern in period France. The roof kept the rain out, and... that was the main boast the place could make. All around words she didn't understand being spoken - was her translator working or not? In so much noise either way it didn't matter. She was putting more effort into keeping her hologram on. The modifications her appearance needed were pervasive even by Transport standards. Horns, fangs, all her coloring... Kanaya tried not to think about it. This way she would receive better treatment than the Natives provided. Back home.
So she placed a carefully practiced order for the only drink sold here that either of her conditions would allow: A tall glass of water. Kanaya would nurse this slowly throughout the evening as she hung close to Shiki, looking to him for guidance on how to conduct herself here.
Kanaya walked back into the hotel room with one arm around a paper bag. Around Alice and having ascertained they were alone here, she felt secure leaving the hologram on its default setting of transports-no others-yes. Her period clothes were left intact, something she didn't mind as much in England as in France. There was something nice about matching Alice.
She set the goods down on the counter and looked up to her mission partner. "Well, here I am again. I hope for your sake I don't botch this batch too badly."

In his desire to blend in, Shiki asked for sake in an endeavor to maintain his own image. The problem had been that he realized at the time, Japan had little to no exposure to the outside world, barring China. He would have to be blending in as a Chinese student traveling abroad. As for Kanaya... He still hadn't been sure what he would say about her to others. Really, he should have planned it through more, he thought.
The bar, naturally, didn't have sake. He admitted aloud that it was fine, that he would drink a local wine instead. Given a glass of it, Shiki took glances to see if anyone else had been drinking wine, feeling the slightest bit of relief of the fact. Though, as he stared at the wine, Shiki realized he hadn't had a drop of alcohol his entire life.

"I'm certain that you won't, Kanaya." Alice said, doing her best to support her friend throughout all this. Though in all honesty, she was just trying her best to hide her own discomfort.
