Location: The housing complex's elevator.
Characters: Kano Shuuya & Jade Curtiss.
Summary: Kano procrastinates on a delivery. He bumps into Jade... and the elevator breaks down.
Warnings: really awkward attempts at friendliness (???)

[Give Jade this package, Kido had told him. It was a simple enough job, but he dragged his feet on it. He'd rather that someone else would take it--Kaede, maybe, or even Shintaro. But he was the most convenient choice at the moment and was told strictly that he wasn't to fool around and to finish it as quickly as possible.

Kano planned to, but not before taking a stroll around the complex. When he heads back he still has the package tucked underneath his arm and finally decides that he might as well visit a friend before finish this mission. Ah, he was probably making it worse by avoiding it for so long, but he justified it by telling himself it wasn't an urgent task.

He enters the elevator, presses the floor number, and waits.]

[He doesn't answer right away, since he's going to try jabbing at the floor buttons. No luck. The elevator's really broken down.]

Ah... it seems like we'll be standing around for a little longer. [He mumbles it to himself.]

[clinical]

Haha, it's fortunate that we get along so well, isn't it? [Just let Jade look at that panel. He isn't good at technology but hell he's going to try.]

[It's all Jade's to inspect. Kano stands behind, tucking the package beneath his arm again.]

Yup. It'd be a real headache if we were mortal rivals instead.

[clinical]

Indeed. I'm happy to say I'm past the age when rivalling teenagers is considered acceptable on Auldrant. [WIRES? BUTTONS? This is not going to work, is it? He's still going to look at it to see if there is any change.]

[Kano, in the meantime, will start hovering. It's not like he can be of any help, though. Fixing elevators isn't in his repertoire of skills.]

So, so... can you figure it out?

[Would you say it's not his speciality?]

Hm . . . Technology isn't really my specialty regardless, but it seems to be a mechanical flaw. I can't do anything from here.

[That's much more concise! And it seems like there really is nothing to be done except to wait for help to come. He leans against the wall.]

Ah, I guess climbing out won't be a good idea?

[clinical]

If you have a way of forcing the doors open at the floor above, you're welcome to try it.

Me? I can't! But don't you have those spears of yours up your sleeve?

[clinical]

That plan would also require that I climb on top of the lift. I'm not so sure that's wise for a man my age.

[There goes that plan of escape. Kano isn't sure if he can support him either...

After a minute of looking up at the ceiling and deciding that there's no way for either of them to get back that way, he turns back to Jade and offers the package.]

Well... since we're stuck here, you can have your present early, old man.

[clinical]

For me? Why, Kano, you shouldn't have. [He accepts the package.] It's a whole four hundred and ninety eight days early for my birthday.

[duplicitoussight]

That's way too long, way too far away! It's better for old men to celebrate while they still have the energy to, right?

[clinical]

Are you worried about me passing on early? How kind.

[duplicitoussight]

Leader'd would be heartbroken if something like that happened. You know how she is.

[clinical]

Hahah, and it wouldn't do for you to get jealous at a funeral.

[duplicitoussight]

I'm offended! I wouldn't be so nasty towards your memory!

[clinical]

What a morbid way of thinking. Ah, that might actually make me sad if that happened.

That shouldn't be a problem. I hear comforting people at funerals is an ideal way to make bonds grow.

[Kano presses one of the buttons. Still not working.] I see, I see. I guess adults have a different idea of closeness.

[clinical]

[Jade's content to wait it out.] Do you disagree, Kano?

[duplicitoussight]

I don't want to give a rude answer by accident!

[clinical]

I'm confident you won't. [Because it would be on purpose.]
