By the time the afternoon rolled around, Collette was down and rearranging the towels on the bleachers by the far wall. All those invited were either going to show up or not -- and new people might stop by hearing voices from inside the arched hall of the indoor pool.

Either way, it was a great distraction for her, and she hoped it would be useful for those who wanted to learn or practice swimming, or just have fun diving after rings and pulling them up off the bottom of the pool. Not to mention, maybe people would start diving!

And so it was that the person arranging the whole thing sat in her suit in her borrowed wheelchair (manual when she'd come over in her electrical) at the poolside, examining the lifeguard whistle around her neck with the stopwatch, and leaning over to poke at the lifeguard buoy.

( the grabbing could be alarming, but it is gentle and the glide is an enjoyable feeling, really; the last and only other time he was in a body of water with any real depth he'd been more concerned with avoiding drowning. )

I am. I didn't know you could swim, Lavi!

( he's cheerful himself, and suitably impressed. )

[ There's no need to fear now even though they're away from the shallow end, Lavi's grip remains steady and he has no trouble keeping himself up with just the use of his legs. The impressed tone gets a chuckle. ]

I can. I even taught someone how to swim back at the beach, so here I am!

[ Actually picked for his swimming skills! Who knew.

Now let's go in a circle yaaay. ]

( yaaaay circles. he can't help laughing a bit, pleased; for the moment, he's just letting lavi pull him around without putting much effort of his own into it. )

This must be easier than trying to teach in the ocean.

[recorden]

[ It's like pulling along a little kid! And that's amusing, so Lavi hardly minds. They can go in a neat 8-shape around the pool. ]

They both have their pros and cons, really. But it's certainly more organized here. How'd you fare on the beach?

[velveteened]

I didn't go very far in the water.

( he mostly splashed around, also like a little kid, and collected seashells. )

But I had a lot of fun!

( frolicking around and building sand castles and getting into shenanigans!!! and also getting sunburned which was terrible fuck sunburns. )

It was a pretty great mission!

[ But yeah, he feels you on the sunburning buddy.

With the 8 completed, he pauses again, leaning over to peer at Oz's face. ]
