Summary: The first meeting of the Exsilium Transport Swim Team

By the time the afternoon rolled around, Collette was down and rearranging the towels on the bleachers by the far wall. All those invited were either going to show up or not -- and new people might stop by hearing voices from inside the arched hall of the indoor pool.

Either way, it was a great distraction for her, and she hoped it would be useful for those who wanted to learn or practice swimming, or just have fun diving after rings and pulling them up off the bottom of the pool. Not to mention, maybe people would start diving!

And so it was that the person arranging the whole thing sat in her suit in her borrowed wheelchair (manual when she'd come over in her electrical) at the poolside, examining the lifeguard whistle around her neck with the stopwatch, and leaning over to poke at the lifeguard buoy.

[ He grins automatically at the sound of her voice even before he glances over his shoulder at her. ]

We got this! It's not too difficult.

[ He taught royalty how to swim back at the beach so surely he can do it here too. ]

And yeah, somewhat. There's quite a few people who can't swim, yeah? It's amazing the Initiative itself hasn't thought of doing something like this before.

Why would they? We've had like... two, three missions with oceans involved. Past that, they can bring back anyone who drowns, or just give them floaties in the first place.

( She winks, making light of something that's more of a harsh reality than it is a joke. )

It's nice to see so many people down and around here! We should keep letting the new guys know when they show up or something. Jesse's Cookies, Swim Club, Greeting People...

Still, that seems like a lotta trouble. Teach a man to fish an' all that.

[ He turns to face her fully, also grinning as if that's not an actual possibility here. ]

I handed out fliers this time, but maybe we can do something like a stall too. Or advertise at the cookie tent?

mmm, I don't think Jesse would mind. We can always ask? Cookies and word of mouth about the swim club... 'cause I'm sure water will be on their minds!

( she has to grin, almost laughing, recalling how often the rain picks up heavily around the first or so. )

Did you get a chance to meet people when they'd just come in this month?

We can ask to at least get to hang up a poster or something. And usually they're soaked so yeah, I'd say water is on their minds.

[ He chuckles, now knowing exactly what the reaction is to being approached about swimming while getting drenched by rain. ]

Yep, I did get to meet quite some newbies.

Any of them seem promising?

( Howard's one of them, she thinks, but that's as far as that thought goes -- a series of loose associations that round back on themselves with a note of "learn more later." (She has many of these notes on many, many people, for equally as many reasons.) )

I'm so bummed I missed the arrival rush!

Mostly they just seemed shell-shocked, but hey. Can't blame them. Some were interesting.

[ But not Link though and even as Lavi glances around the pool to check for familiar faces, that's one he passes over as if he's not there. ]

I'll have to pencil September into my really busy schedule...

( She pantomimes pulling something out of the bag hooked on the back of her chair, then writes in the object -- meant to be a book -- with considerable artistic flair.

Then she closes her invisible book and puts it away. )
