someone left a cake out in the rain
Date & Time: 06August2013, evening
Location: House of the Rising Tsun
Characters: Axel, Roxas, Xion, Riku? maybe some other people? ????????? if you wanna come join the absurdity feel free to knock on the door!
Summary: Axel conveniently forgets to tell anyone it's his birthday.
Warnings: He gon' get yelled at.
It had been a long time since Axel had really bothered to give much thought to his birthday. Certainly it had happened every year--August 6th still happened, even in The World That Never Was--but the Organization hadn't really had a party planning committee, as it were. And so every year when the sixth of August rolled around, Axel just sort of etched another tally line beneath the header of his life and moved on. Good job, you survived another year.
This year, however, he decided to go all out and actually procure a slice of cake for the occasion. After all, he wasn't under the Organization's thumb anymore, so who was going to find fault with him for it?
Well, the natives, apparently. No one had wanted to sell him a single slice of cake, and despite a healthy sweet tooth he wasn't about to try and eat an entire cake by himself. If he brought home a whole sheet cake to share, though, everyone would ask why, and the last thing he wanted to do was make a big deal out of this. Xion and Roxas didn't even really have birthdays, at that, so he certainly didn't want to rub the concept in their faces. He had finally found a vendor willing to sell him a quarter of a sheet cake, and supposed that would do. It was still more than he could eat all at once, though, and despite giving it his best shot, he still had about 2/3 of the cake left when he headed home.
He'd found the apartment empty for the moment when he got home, which was rare given how many people lived there now. He supposed the kids had gone out shopping or something, and Riku was probably at work. Sheena had come home briefly and then quickly vacated again upon seeing the cake. Axel figured she either a.) didn't like cake (which was unlikely) or b.) had made the connection and was going to return home with a gift of some sort that he was going to not know how to accept because what the hell nobody ever bought him things.
Axel found himself hoping that Sheena just didn't like cake, because he really didn't want this to wind up being a big to-do.
Seated on the sofa and picking at the cake again with a fork, he glanced up when the door opened, quickly reaching out to close the plastic clamshell. He didn't have time to properly hide the box, however, and so he just shoved it beneath a pillow beside him. Alas, he didn't realize there was a telling smear of frosting at the edge of his mouth that would give him away...

And then he blinked when Xion poked at her cheek, lifting a hand to mirror the action and then silently kicking himself when he found the smear of icing. Curses.
Smearing the frosting away with the pad of his thumb he quickly attempted to regain his poise.
"Must'a just been something from lunch; what's in the bags?" Yes, good, change the subject.

"Just some food and things," she replied, in answer to Axel's question. She'd noticed one or two things they were low on, plus there'd been some interesting-looking things while they'd been out. All in all, it wasn't that interesting, certainly not as interesting as whatever Axel had been doing. Hopefully whatever lunch he'd eaten wouldn't mean she'd missed something else she could have picked up while they were out though...
