Every saint now has a past
Date & Time: April 29, 1429 - May 8, 1429
Location: Orléans, France
Characters: Maria Thorpe, Thassarian
Summary: Maria and Thassarian have been sent to the Siege of Orléans by a Joan of Arc fangirl. There will be swordfites and general chatter as we vaguely thread out highlights from those nine days.
Warnings: War and such.
[The city's been under siege for six months, and morale is running low when Thassarian and Maria arrive. They're sent mostly to observe, but both have their weapons with them. This is war, after all, and they're both well-prepared.
They have nine days, and will undoubtedly run into some fighting. They're on the side of the French, and it's their mission to watch Joan of Arc closely, even if that means getting their blades dirty with English blood.]

A shame you're not from my world, Maria. All we would have had to do is pass you off as a half-elf. I've never seen an elf with a proper beard before- no one would be the wiser.
[And he smiles, pulling his hand back.]
Of course, in my world, that wouldn't have been necessary. If you ever get a chance to visit it, I'd introduce you to the Night Elves of Darnassus. They're fierce, strong women- many of them are warriors and soldiers. I count myself fortunate that they are allied with the humans.
[Unless she liked dressing as a boy. He paused, considering that for a moment. It wasn't that it bothered him, merely that he worried that he had misspoke in assuming it had all been for her career as a soldier.]

Who can say? The very idea of traveling to other worlds sounds like a fantastic tale a storyteller would cook up for children—yet look at you now. If they can send us to other times in the history of Earth, why not entirely other lands?
[It doesn't occur to her that even those who know the same lands are from different "worlds." Earth is Earth and England is England, isn't it?]
Sometimes I still think I've gone mad and this is all a fevered dream. Other times I think I'm the sane one and it's the world that's gone mad.
[P.S. By the standards of her time, she is dressed like a boy, Thass.]

Well, it's more than I could have ever thought up- and I don't dream.
[He looks into the fire.]
This is better, anyway- I didn't have anything waiting for me back home. Just my sister, and Koltira. Otherwise, just a war that wasn't about to end anytime soon.

At least you were well-prepared for this one.
[...that wasn't especially comforting, was it. Damn, she's not very good at that.]
Speaking of preparation, are we ready for our primary mission tomorrow?
no subject
As ready as we're going to be. Are you any better with this technology than I am?
[He fished through his pack and retrieved the small recording device, peering at it and holding it out to her.]

I doubt it, but I've managed to use my tablet with some success. I'm certain we can avoid complete failure...somehow.
[She takes the device from him and examines it.]
